The Mount Saint Mary College Men's Lacrosse team suffered its fourth loss in six outings to start the season on Saturday with an 18-6 defeat to visiting Misericordia. Freshman Michael Darcy (Islip, N.Y.) led the scoring attack with three points for the Mount. After allowing the first two goals of the game to the Cougars, the Knights sliced their deficit in half when Darcy scored his second goal of the season at the 11:01 mark of the opening stanza. From there, Misericrodia ripped off the next four goals and eight of the final nine of the first half to carry a 10-2 advantage into the intermission. The Mount managed only 10 shots in the opening 30 minutes on Saturday and saw Misericordia hold a 24-10 advantage in the category at the break. The Cougars controlled face-offs prior to halftime 10-4 and held a slim 15-13 advantage in groundballs after two periods. The visitors opened up a 13-2 lead early in the third frame before Ryan Maraio (Staten Island, N.Y.) potted his sixth goal of the season with 6:25 left in the third frame. The Mount received a second third period tally from Thomas Bahmer III (East Brunswick, N.J.), but would not score consecutive goals in the game until Darcy and Billy Holland (Pearl River, N.Y.) closed out the scoring with back-to-back markers in the final six minutes of regulation. Darcy finished the day with a pair of goals and an assist for the Knights, with fellow freshman Brian Esposito (Floral Park, N.Y.) helping on two goals. Maraio finished up with a goal and an assist to move his team lead in points to 17, with Holland potting his team leading 10th goal of the season. Matthew Martino (Watertown, Conn.), Esposito and Brian Schneider (Hicksville, N.Y.) each collected four groundballs for the Mount, while Anthony Kearns (Clinton, N.J.) caused a trio of turnovers and scooped two groundballs. Misericordia was led by five goals and seven points from Patrick Luzzi who was one of five Cougars to score at least two goals. Nick Torzilli and Kyle Vandeberg each rounded out the day with two goals and five points. Garrett Heidecker and Garrett Rogers each won 10 face-offs for the visitors with Rogers collecting six groundballs. In goal, Eli Laikin (Oak Bluffs, Mass.) stopped seven shots for the Mount, with Devin Kelley (Hebron, Conn.) coming on to make a trio of saves in just under 18 minutes of action. Owen Rogers earned the win for MIsericrodia with five saves over the first three periods, with Matt Beck coming on to make five fourth period stops. For the game, Misericrodia held the advantage in shots 45-25, shots on goal 28-16, groundballs 37-29 and face-offs 21-7. Mount Saint Mary rounded out the day 18-for-21 in clearing chances, with the visitors going 18-for-20 and scoring four times with the man advantage. At 2-4 overall on the season, Mount Saint Mary continues a four game home stand on Wednesday when it plays host to Manhattanville. Face-off with the Valiants is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
