Stockton University (11-2, 3-0 CSAC) scored the first six goals of the game and never looked back on the way to a 15-9 victory over Montclair State (5-6, 1-1). Luc Swedlund (Randolph/Randolph) scored a game-high three goals for the Ospreys. Erik Anderson (Monroe Twp./Monroe Twp.), Eric Ellis (Voorhees/Eastern) and Dante Poli (Doylestown, PA/Central Bucks South) each contributed two goals and two assists for four points. Eric D'Arminio (Roxbury/Roxbury) tossed in two goals as well. Colin Wharton (Cinnaminson/Camden Catholic) scooped the ground ball off the opening faceoff and scored 15 seconds into the game to get Stockton off to a fast start. The Ospreys quickly broke the game open with three goals in 2:09. D'Armino assisted by Ellis, J.J. McKenna (Barnegat/Barnegat) assisted by Poli and Peter Burke (Shamong/Seneca) from Joey Tiernan (Voorhees/Eastern) made it 4-0 with less than five minutes gone in the contest. Tallies by Anderson and Tiernan followed for a commanding 6-0 advantage after one quarter. Montclair State got on the board with a pair of goals early in the second stanza before the Osprey defense shut down the Red Hawks for the rest of the period. D'Arminio hit the net and then Swedlund fired in two straight counters for a 9-2 lead at the break. Montclair State tried to rally with three goals in the first five minutes of the third quarter to close within 9-5. Stockton put the game away with six straight markers while the Ospreys defense held their foes scoreless for 18 minutes. Ellis and Poli led the charge with two goals apiece while Swedlund and Anderson each potted one. On the strength of the six-goal outburst, the lead ballooned to 15-5 with 8:13 to play. From there, Stockton was content to run out the clock and post the 15-9 triumph. Stockton goalkeeper Justin Ruiz (Holmdel/Holmdel) notched the win with 11 saves. Kevin Matheny (Flemington/Hunterdon Central) and Matt Thermann (Spring Lake Heights/Manasquan) each grabbed five ground balls followed by Wharton with four. Tyler McCreery paced Montclair State with two goals and an assist. Matt Haemmerle scored two goals and Matthew McLaren tallied 10 saves in net for the Red Hawks. Stockton will continue a three-game homestand with a CSAC match against Rosemont on Saturday at 1 pm.
