Senior Grace Nolan scored a team-high five points but the University of Connecticut women's lacrosse team fell to No. 8 James Madison, 21-9, Sunday afternoon at the U.S. Lacrosse Facility. Freshman Sydney Watson put forward another strong performance as the midfielder won a game-high seven draw controls and picked up an assist. Defensively, senior Cassie Ekstrom led the team in caused turnovers (4) for the third straight game. Nolan and sophomore Olivia Miles scored early for UConn as the score was knotted 2-2 in the opening five minutes of the contest. Nolan played a hand in both of the Huskies goals to anchor the squad's offense. JMU quickly jumped out to a 7-2 advantage at behind a 5-0 scoring run. Nolan ended the Dukes run with a free position goal at in the 13th minutes before junior Caitlin Leary posted her first goal of the contest. Despite the Huskies scoring efforts it was JMU who held a comfortable 9-4 edge at the half. The Dukes came out of the break hungry to score the first three goals of the second frame. Leary and Lexi Kenneally would later post back-to-back tallies for UConn and cut the deficit to 13-6. JMU finished the contest scoring eight of the 11 final goals. Nolan paced the squad with four goals and Leary chipped in with three of her own. Four different Huskies recorded assists in tile. Sophomore Grace Beshlian finished the day with nine saves.
