The University of Richmond women's lacrosse team mounted a fierce comeback in the second half of play on Saturday afternoon, but the Spiders could not overcome a powerful James Madison offense, falling to the No. 3 Dukes, 14-9. James Madison jumped out to an early 5-0 lead before Katie Sciandra scored her 20th goal of the season to put the Spiders on the board. JMU would then take a 9-1 lead before Kim Egizi and Julia Schmuckler scored to make it 10-3 with just under four minutes remaining in the half. The Dukes scored twice in the closing minute of the half to take a 12-3 advantage into the break. The Spider comeback began in the second half, as Sciandra started the scoring with a free position goal and Egizi scored her second of the day to cut into the James Madison lead. JMU scored once again to extend the lead to eight, but Marissa Brown scored two consecutive free position goals to give the Spiders a 4-1 edge in the second half. Katie Trainer then scored her first goal of the afternoon, thwarting a JMU man-up opportunity and netting the Spiders' fifth goal of the half. Sciandra scored on a free position attempt to log the hat trick and cut the JMU lead to four, but the Dukes managed to score their second goal of the half round out the scoring. Megan Gianforte finished the day with nine saves in goal, including six in the second half while holding the Dukes to just two second half goals. The Spiders return to action on Saturday, March 23, when they host William & Mary in the second game of a Richmond Lacrosse double-header at Robins Stadium. Game time is set for 5 p.m
