- The Neumann University men's lacrosse team found its way back to the win column on Saturday afternoon, taking home a 22-5 victory over the visiting College of Mount Saint Vincent in non-conference action. Eric Conlon (6 g) and Chris Augustine (3 g, 3 a) paced the offense on the day with six points apiece. Colin Blake (2 g, 2 a) and Rich Marshall (2 g, 2 a) both registered four points, while Brett McLaughlin scored a goal and caused a team-high six turnovers. Hunter Faunce and Brendan Risley combined for three saves in goal and Jack Newswanger continued his dominance on face-offs, going 17-for-19 on the day with 15 ground balls. The game would remain close throughout the opening quarter, as the Knights worked their way into the contest. Neumann took a 2-0 lead through goals from Blake and Drew Conlon, but a late goal from the Dolphins with 1:39 left in the frame made it 2-1 heading into the second stanza. As the game moved to the second, the hosts began to take a stranglehold in the matchup. The Knights tallied six unanswered goals to open the quarter, racing to a huge 9-1 lead that they would not surrender. Eric Conlon led the charge in the frame with a pair of goals, while Augustine recorded a goal and an assist. Mount Saint Vincent got a goal back with 43 seconds left to go in the half, but a marker from John McKendry with just 10 seconds left in the half sent the game to intermission with Neumann leading 9-2. Everyone began to get into the scoring act in the third frame, as defenders McLoughlin and Alex Rucci each rifled home long range efforts to record the team's first goals of the quarter. The Knights would score four more times in the period led by another pair from Eric Conlon and hold the Dolphins to just two goals in the period, taking a 15-4 lead to the fourth. The rout continued into the final frame, as Neumann found the back of the net seven more times compared to just one goal for Mount Saint Vincent. Augustine and Eric Conlon again carried the Knight offense in the period, each picking up two goals in the quarter as the hosts took home the comfortable 22-5 win. Neumann (3-4) will have a long break before returning to the field on Tuesday, March 26th for another home non-conference contest with Rosemont College. Game-time is slated for 4:00 PM.
