The Lafayette women’s lacrosse team ran into an offensive buzzsaw on Saturday afternoon in Baltimore, Md., unable to contain No. 10 Loyola in a 22-5 defeat at Ridley Athletic Complex. The Leopards came out ready to battle, jumping out to a 4-2 edge after the opening six minutes. Unfortunately, a pair of 10-goal runs from the home side on two separate occasions broke open the game on either side of the halftime break to decide it. Senior co-captain Kristen Schaen was the only Leopard to record multiple goals on the day with a pair. Junior Jane Kirby, sophomore Bella Alampi and freshman Anna Stein were the other goal-scorers, as junior Emma Novick went scoreless for the first time in her collegiate career. Novick had scored at least once in all 45 of her games played in two-plus seasons in the Maroon and White. Freshman Quinn Lacy and senior co-captain Anna Raymond shared time between the pipes, with Lacy making nine saves in 37:44 of play. Raymond relieved the rookie with 22:16 to play and made four saves while allowing five goals during the final stretch. The loss drops Lafayette to 4-9 overall on the season and 1-4 in Patriot League play, while Loyola improves to 10-3 on its season with a 6-0 mark in conference action. Shots (43-20), ground balls (17-16) and draw controls (18-11) all favored the home side with the Greyhounds additionally forcing 16 Leopard turnovers compared to 10 of their own. The Rivalry is on deck for the Maroon and White as Lafayette will travel across town on Wednesday for a meeting with Lehigh at 7 p.m.
