POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - Following a tough road loss on Saturday, the Vassar men's lacrosse team bounced back with a dominating 24-4 victory over Mount Saint Mary on Tuesday evening at Weinberg Field. Vassar saw 12 different Brewers net goals with nine players tallying two or more. The Brewers' 24 goals mark the most since they scored 23 against Western Connecticut on March 14, 2014. With the win Vassar moves to 2-2, while Mount Saint Mary slips to 1-2. Michael Mullen (Dresher, PA) was the top scorer with five points (four goals, one assist). The Brewers controlled possession from early on, limiting the Knights' offense to just six shots in the first half. Sophomore Tomas Meade (Corvallis, OR) scored at 13:57 in the first as the Brewers took a 5-0 lead at the end of the quarter. At 10:06, Michael Killion (McLean, VA) netted his first goal of the game and would finish with a hat trick. The Vassar offense really picked up soon after. Freshman Connor Deehan (Westwood, MA) kept a four-game point streak alive, scoring at 6:44. On the ensuing faceoff, Matthew Lowery (Bel Air, MD) won in the "X" and found an open Mullen down the field for the easy goal five seconds later. Mullen would score once more in the quarter. Lowery split time with Chandler Arney (Atlanta, GA) on faceoffs and the two went 26-of-30 while the two accounted for 21 total groundballs. As the temperature continued to drop, the Vassar offense heated up even more in the second. The Brewers scored 10 goals, while the defense only allowed one. Senior James Thomas (Manhasset, NY) and Dekker Stebel (San Diego, CA) both scored twice, while Drew Adams (Westwood, MA), Liam Neville (Davis, CA), Evan Burns (Duxbury, CA), Mullen, Meade and Deehan all found the back of the net before the half. Mount Saint Mary picked up a little in the third, notching three goals in the quarter. That proved to be all the Vassar defense would allow though. A couple more Brewers got in on the scoring action with Spencer Duryee (Whitehouse Station, NJ), Pat Gibbions (Garden City, NY) and James Hueston (Denver, CO) all getting on the board, with Hueston's goal being his career first. Deehan finished with four points (two goals, two assists), while Killion, Thomas, Meade, Neville, Nick Diamond (Boca Raton, FL) and Austin Mello (Lafayette, CA) all had three points. Diamond and Mello led the Brewers with three assists each. Arney had a career-high 11 groundballs, while Lowery grabbed 10. Defenseman Zack Henig (Millstone, NY) led Vassar with two caused turnovers. As a team, the Brewers outshot the Knights 45-15 and had a 48-27 groundball advantage. Senior Matt Boyd (Essex Fells, NJ) started in goal and picked up the win. He had three saves. Freshman Devin Lee found time between the pipes, making four saves in his collegiate debut. The Brewers now take on a five-game road trip starting with Maritime on Wed. March 5 at 5 p.m. in Throggs Neck, NY.
