Freshman Sam Fiedler scored all of her game-high four goals in the Greyhounds’ 9-0 second-half run to lead the 10th-ranked Loyola University Maryland women’s lacrosse team to an 18-5 win over Lehigh at the Ulrich Sports Complex Saturday afternoon. Junior Hannah Powers led all players with five points on three goals and two assists, while Fielder’s four goals led a second-high 10 Greyhounds in scoring. It was also her first collegiate hat trick. Senior Frankie Kamely turned in her sixth hat trick of the season, adding three goals and one assist for the Greyhounds (6-2 overall, 2-0 Patriot League), and junior Taylor VanThof added two goals. Senior Katrina Geiger, senior Hannah Savage, junior Sabrina Tabasso, sophomore Holly Lloyd, freshman Elli Kluegel and freshman Liz Scott rounded out the scoring with one goal apiece. Savage also added two assists, while classmate Margaret Filippelli and Tabasso tacked on one each. Sondra Dickey, Olivia Kelly, Courtney Henig, Mary Ellen Carron and Christina Balestra led Lehigh (6-4, 1-1) with one goal each. Loyola held a slight 5-3 advantage at halftime after a low-scoring first half that saw Lehigh goalkeeper Samantha Sagi turn back 10 of the Greyhounds’ shots. The Mountain Hawks struck first at 27:11 after Loyola’s first shot ricocheted off of the pipe. VanThof answered for the Greyhounds though, evening the score at 1-1 with 24:01 on the clock. Lehigh regained its advantage at the 17:17 mark, but Powers found the back of the net at 13:52 to tie the game for a second time. She then assisted Kluegel’s behind-the-back highlight-reel goal at 10:53, giving Loyola a 3-2 advantage. The Mountain Hawks equalized the game for a third time at 9:47, but Kamely fired the final two goals of the half into the back of the net to send Loyola into the halftime break with a two-goal advantage that it wouldn’t relinquish. Savage rolled the crease and went five-hole for the first goal of the second half and Powers followed it up with a man-up score, assisted by Kamely, at the 25:21 mark. A free-position goal by the Mountain Hawks, at 23:23, gave them their first second-half goal, but the Greyhounds strung together seven-straight goals over a span of four minutes and 19 seconds to take a commanding 14-4 lead. With the clock running, Fielder and Scott stretched Loyola’s run to nine-straight goals before Lehigh halted the run with a score at the 9:03 mark. Tabasso and Lloyd rounded out the game with their first goals of the season to account for the 18-5 final score. Defensively, senior Madison Fahey and freshman Bridge Ballard collected two ground balls and two caused turnovers, while Fiedler had a game-high four ground balls and senior Katrina Geiger added three. In goal, junior Kady Glynn stopped five shots in 46:46 minutes, while freshman Kaitlyn Larsson turned back two in the final 13:14. Loyola will return to action on Wednesday when it hosts American at 6 p.m.
