The University of Richmond men's lacrosse team picked up its first win of the 2022 season with an impressive 18-4 victory over visiting Marist Saturday at Robins Stadium. The Red Foxes were picked to finish second in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference in the preseason poll and were held to their lowest scoring output since February 19, 2019 against nationally ranked Army. Graduate attack Ryan Lanchbury (Burlington, Ontario) continued his assault on the Spiders' record book, becoming the all-time leading goal scorer in program history. Lanchbury led the way with four goals and two assists Saturday, raising his career goal total to 126, surpassing Teddy Hatfield's record of 124 goals scored. He also set the Southern Conference goal scoring record, which Hatfield also held. He has tallied 221 career points, now just five points shy of Hatfield's career point total and program record. The Spiders offense generated 18 goals and recorded 58 shots in the victory. The 58 shots are a program-record, surpassing the previous record of 57 shots set last year against VMI. Lanchbury led the way once again with 12 shots on his own while Dalton Young (Chantilly, Va.) added eight. Young finished with six points, scoring four goals and adding three assists. Freshman faceoff specialist Jared Chenoy (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) was dominant in his efforts Saturday, winning 15 out of 18 faceoffs helping the Spiders hold a 20-of-25 edge at the dot. Chenoy added a career-best eight ground balls while scoring his first career goal and his first career assist. Redshirt sophomore goalie Devin Craven (McLean, Va.) picked up his first career victory, playing 56:42 in goal and making 11 saves. The Spiders defense was strong throughout, with redshirt freshman Braden McClure (Towson, Md.) causing four turnovers and Joe Gooley (Duxbury, Mass.) adding three caused turnovers and four ground balls. Marist (1-2) scored the game's first goal a man-down before the Spiders responded with five-straight goals. Young recorded his hat trick just 16:32 into the game to spark the Spiders. Richmond ran out to a 12-2 lead in the third quarter with sophomore Lance Madonna (East Syracuse, N.Y.) posting his first career hat trick. The Spiders out-scored Marist 6-2 in the fourth quarter with four different Spiders – Chenoy, Max Merklinger (Mendham, N.J.), Henry Alpaugh (Darian, Conn.) and JT Stirpe (Vestal, N.Y.) – each scoring their first career goals in the victory. The Spiders hit the road next weekend, heading to Towson for a non-conference matchup. Game time is set for noon and will be streamed on FloLive for a fee.
