If you were just an uninterested spectator, then you couldn't ask for a better lacrosse game to watch than the one Princeton and Brown played Saturday afternoon. How could you after the teams combined for 27 goals and 88 shots, with 10 ties, no team ever with more than a two-goal lead, with every loose ball contested and with bodies flying all over the place at critical moments. If you were Princeton, that was of little comfort when it was over. Brown's MIchael Panepinto scored the game-winning goal with 14.3 seconds to go to give Brown a thrilling 14-13 win over Princeton at Stevenson-Pincince Field in a game that matched teams looking for their first Ivy League win. Princeton had led 13-12 after Phillip Robertson's third goal with 2:56 to go before Brown tied it on a Carson Song goal with 1:10 to go before winning it on the Panenpinto goal. The difference between the teams on the field was slight, but the impact in the standings was significant. Brown is now 1-1 in the league, while Princeton slipped to 0-3 with non-league games against Stony Brook and Siena and then Dartmouth, Harvard and Cornell in the league. Michael Sowers tied his career high with six assists, including two that would give Princeton the lead late in the game, first to Chris Brown with 6:14 left and then again on the goal to Robertson. Brown, though, answered both times. After Song's goal to make it 13-13, Sam Bonafede won the face-off and took a shot that hit the pipe, rebounding out near midfield and the sideline and leading to a wild scramble from which Brown ultimately got the possession that led to the winning goal. NOTES * Sowers had an eight-point game, with two goals and the six assists, of which both goals and four assists came in the second half. He moved into 12th place all-time at Princeton in career assists with 72 and is tied for 24th in points with 127. He also has 22 points (11 goals, 11 assists) in three games against Brown. * Robertson and Austin Sims had three goals each for the Tigers. Sims also had an assist for a four-point day. * Andrew Song, the freshman longstick midfielder, had a goal with four seconds left in the first half, his second of the year, to make it 8-7 at the break. Song also had eight ground balls. Freshman defenseman George Baughan had two caused turnovers and four ground balls. * Brown had two goals, keeping alive his streak of having at least one in every game in his freshman year. Freshman Luke Crimmins had his first career goal. * Princeton scored 13 goals, of which 10 came from freshmen or sophomores. * Brown outshot Princeton 33-16 in the first half and 49-39 for the game. The last three Princeton-Brown games combined (last two regular seasons and last year's Ivy tournament semifinal) have had 91 goals and 283 shots. * Princeton hosts Stony Brook next Saturday (April 7) at 1.
