Pa.—An outstanding performance by junior attackman Austin Chang on Saturday afternoon powered Swarthmore to its third straight win to start the 2019 season. Chang scored seven goals on 11 shots as Swarthmore rolled to a 17-7 win over the visiting Vassar College Brewers. Swarthmore conceded the game's first goal and held onto a 2-2 tie with 1:25 left in the first quarter. However, the Garnet struck with just four seconds left in the first quarter on a stinger by freshman Will Vespole and that sparked an explosion of nine straight Garnet goals, taking the Garnet into the middle of the third quarter up 11-2. The Garnet scored seven goals in total in the third period and added three more for insurance in the fourth. To complement Chang's seven goals, Ryan Mulvey and Kieran McKenna each recorded hat tricks. Vespole pitched in two goals, and Jake Ross and Mason Evarts each scored one. Swarthmore tallied three goals on man-up chances. Swarthmore was dominant on the faceoff, taking 19-of-28 opportunities. Hunter Luber and Ryan Izquierdo each won eight faceoffs. Swarthmore took advantage of the extra possessions and peppered Vassar with 44 shots to Vassar's 27. The Garnet also secured 38 ground balls to Vassar's 20. Swarthmore hits the road on Wednesday to play at Delaware Valley University in a 7 p.m. game
