DARTMOUTH, Mass. – Corsair senior Donovan Prozinski (Ashland, Mass.) scored the game-winning goal with 46 seconds left in regulation to clinch a men’s lacrosse victory for UMass Dartmouth over Castleton University, 8-7, at Cressy Field on Saturday afternoon. The Blue and Gold (3-2) notch its first Little East triumph of the season, receiving a three-point effort from sophomore Tim Jordan (Sandwich, Mass.). The Spartans (2-5) saw a hat trick from junior Cameron Russell (St. Albans, Vt.). How It Happened The Spartans struck first at the 9:26 mark of the opening period, getting a score from Russell, who spiked his shot off the turf and in (1-0). It took the Corsairs just 56 seconds to reply as the duo of Jordan and Prozinski paired up to even the score (1-1). UMass Dartmouth added another minutes later to take the lead on freshman Kevin Swenson’s (Ipswich, Mass.) marker, preceding a solo effort by freshman Tom Lattanzi (Hamilton, Mass.) to make it a multi-goal advantage (3-1). Castleton took advantage of a man-up chance in the final minute of the period on senior Colin Clark’s (Rutland, Vt.) feed over to Russell for his second goal of the game (3-2). Corsair senior tri-captain Matt Clement (Bridgewater, Mass.) scooped up a Castleton rebound at the beginning of the second stanza and sprinted down the length of the field, taking matters into his own hands and finishing to the bottom right corner (4-2). Things would quiet down until there was 6:39 remaining, with Jordan maneuvering behind the net out of a Corsair timeout and punching it in (5-2). Jordan welcomed the second half with another goal 76 seconds into the new quarter (6-2). The margin would remain at four until Russell clinched his hat trick after 12 minutes dissolved in the period, halving the deficit (6-3). With 1:14 before the penultimate horn, Prozinski restored the difference to four (7-3). Neither offense found the nylon for more than 10 minutes in the fourth quarter until Spartan senior Jason Sedell (Pine Brook, N.J.) rattled off a pair of scores ahead of junior Tyler Crowningshield’s (Vergennes, Vt.) goal to get the visitors within one (7-6). Castleton then made it four unanswered scores on a game-tying marker by Clark via senior Kyle Lutinski’s (New Fairfield, Conn.) setup (7-7). Prozinski picked off a Spartan pass behind the Corsair net and hustled to the left post, rifling in the go-ahead shot with 46 seconds left (8-7). Inside The Numbers Clement’s score was his first-career goal and second collegiate point. The Spartan trio of Russell, Crowningshield, and Sedell accounted for the squad’s seven scores. The visiting team went 4-for-7 on extra man chances while the Corsairs went 0-for-4 on such opportunities. It was the first ever meeting between the two institutions’ programs. Up Next Head Coach Ryan Murphy’s squad gets right back on its home field in approximately 48 hours, playing host to Roger Williams on Monday at 4 p.m. Castleton heads to Sage on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
