Connor Fries sets two program records, as the New England College men's lacrosse team fell to the University of New England 9-7 in non-conference action on Don Melander Field, Wednesday evening. Following the game, the Pilgrims fell to 1-6 on the season, while the Nor'easters improve to 5-3 on the year. NEC LEADERS Charles Hacking collected the hat-trick for the Pilgrims, as he led New England College with three goal. Jacob Blanchette chipped in a pair of goals on the offensive end. Connor Fries was a force on the defensive end, as he caused 11 ground balls and forced 11 turnovers. Fries is now the New England College men's lacrosse program record holder for most career ground balls (377) and caused turnovers (186). UNE LEADERS Alex Zadworny tallied five goals and added three assist for eight points on the afternoon. Adam Race and Spencer Hokanson collected four ground balls, while as a team they forced six turnovers. HOW IT HAPPENED Zadworny got the scoring started with just two minutes left in the first quarter, as the senior picked up the unassisted goal. New England College struck right before the end of the first, as Hacking found the back of the net with nine seconds showing on the clock. Hacking would give NEC the advantage in the opening seconds of the second, as he would score a fast break goal, off the opening face-off. UNE would tie the game up a 2-2, as Zadworny potted the man-up goal three minutes later. Garett Bozek and Zadworny would score the next three goals to extend the Nor'easters lead to 5-2 with just under five minutes remaining in the first half. Blanchette answered for the Pilgrims, as the junior would bookend the halftime intermission with a pair of tallies. Patrick Storie would even the score for New England College with his goal with just over three minutes left in the third. Hacking would give the Pilgrims the 6-5 advantage with 55 seconds left in the third, for his third goal of the game. The University of New England tied the game up at six 33 seconds into the fourth, as Bozek scored off the feed of Zadworny. Zach Bossi would give the Nor'easters the 7-6 lead two minutes later, before back-to-back goals from Zadworny making it 9-6 UNE. Connor Smith would end the Nor'easters run, as he scored a diving goal from behind the net. GOALTENDERS William Platt picked up 15 saves in the crease for the Pilgrims, while Sam MacKenzie recorded 23 for the Nor'easters. WHAT'S NEXT Tuesday, March 26th, at Plattsburgh State, 4 p.m.
