The Randolph College men's lacrosse team dropped a 21-7 decision to visiting Brevard College in its season opener on Saturday evening at WildCat Stadium. Brevard broke open the scoring gates quickly with four consecutive goals before Brett Pausic (Saluda, Va./Christchurch) landed the WildCats on the scoreboard with back-to-back goals in the first quarter, decreasing the deficit to 4-2. However, the Tornados would dish out three consecutive goals to extend its lead to 7-2. The Tornados continued their war path on the field, bringing its lead to 11-2 before Gage Tutko (Manassas, Va./Osbourn) fired off the lone Randolph goal in the second period to trail Brevard, 11-3. Pausic added his third goal of the night in the third quarter for an 11-4 tally while Zach Early (Roanoke, Va./Cave Spring) notched the first of three Randolph goals in the final period to make it a 17-5 game. A 4-0 rally in the fourth quarter capped off Brevard's lead at 21 with 7:38 remaining before Pausic and Prince Charles (Virginia Beach, Va./Cape Henry Collegiate) collected the final two goals for Randolph to cement the final 21-7 score. In spite of the loss, Randolph won 21-of-30 face-offs, outshot the Tornados, 43-39, and held a 24-16 edge in ground balls. In addition to his four goals, Pausic fired off 10 shots with five on target to pace the Randolph offense. Jordan Stanley (Mechanicsville, Va./Lee-Davis) had three assists in his collegiate debut, also firing off five shots on goal, while Charles led the team with 12 ground balls and won 16-of-20 face-off attempts. Corey Boswell (Stafford, Va./Brooke Point) took the loss in goal, facing 13 shots and making three saves. Connor Dobbins (Palmyra, Va./Fluvanna County) also shared playing time in the crease, facing 16 shots and making five stops. Randolph moves to 0-1 and is back in action on Wednesday, Feb. 20 when the WildCats travel to William Peace University for a 7 p.m. contest.
