The No. 2 RIT (14-1) men's lacrosse team defeated Nazareth College (4-10) 19-6 in non-conference action from RIT's Turf Field Tuesday evening. RIT has now won 12 straight games over the Golden Flyers and extended its overall winning streak to nine games. Shots were 49-27 in favor of RIT. The Tigers held a 39-28 ground ball advantage, and won 15-of-29 face-offs. RIT cleared the ball 17-of-20 times and were 1-for-1 on the man-up. Shawn Nally (Rochester, NY/McQuaid) led RIT with career-best totals of six goals and eight points. Trevor Smyth (Orangeville, Ontario/The Kiski School) tallied a career-best three goals and four points from his long stick midfield position and led RIT with seven ground balls. Damon Currie tallied two goals and two assists, while Ryan Tandy (Montrose, NY/Hendrick-Hudson) scored two goals and Cam Isaac (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) had a goal and three assists. Walker Hare (Libertyville, IL/Libertyville) improved to 14-1 on the season in net, making nine saves. Jimmy Spillane (River Vale, NJ/Pascack Valley) won seven draws and Matt Streit (Penfield, NY/Webster Schroeder) caused five turnovers. Jeremy Jacob and Jon Parrinello each scored two goals for the Golden Flyers, while Matthew Vanliew had two assists. Eric Almquist took the loss in net for Nazareth, making 13 saves. RIT led 5-3 after the first quarter. Nally and Currie each scored twice in the opening quarter, while Matt Pogue (Mississauga, Ontario/St. Paul Secondary) scored off an assist from Nally. The Golden Flyers tallied three goals from Jacob and Parrinello. The Tigers outscored Nazareth 4-0 in the second quarter to lead 9-3 at halftime. Tandy, Nally, Barnable and Smyth each scored for RIT, while the Tigers defense held the Golden Flyers scoreless over the final 20:03 of the first half. The Tigers scored five straight goals to begin the second half, taking a 14-3 lead on Smyth's second goal of the game at the 6:35 mark of the third quarter. Nazareth broke its nearly 40 minute scoring drought on a Parrinello goal with 2:10 to play in the third quarter. The Tigers tacked on five goals in the fourth quarter, while the Golden Flyers tallied twice to make it a 19-6 final. The Tigers tallied at least 18 goals in a game for the ninth time this season. RIT returns to action on Saturday, April 20 when the Tigers host Liberty League rival St. Lawrence University at 1 p.m. on RIT's Turf Field. The Tigers will honor the class of 2019 prior to Saturday's contest.
