Holy Cross scored five times in a late-game span of 2 minutes and 22 seconds to rally for a 12-10 Patriot League decision over Colgate. Saturday's roller-coaster saw the Raiders in front 2-1 in the first quarter before Holy Cross scored the next three goals. Colgate answered with four goals in a row, Holy Cross scored the next three, Colgate scored four straight and then Holy Cross finished the game with five goals in succession. The score was tied 2-2 after one quarter, Colgate led 6-5 at intermission and the Raiders were in front 8-7 heading to the fourth. They stretched that lead to 10-7 on goals from Mike Hawkins with 14:20 remaining and Griffin Brown with 8:44 on the clock. Sam Cleveland assisted on both goals and finished the day with five helpers to up his season total to 26. That ties Cleveland for the 10th-best season assist total in program history. Holy Cross began its comeback on a goal by Sean Mullaney with 3:39 remaining that made it a 10-8 game. The Crusaders followed with four consecutive faceoff wins and four quick strikes. Mullaney tallied a hat trick during the comeback alone, while Kevin Kodzis scored his fourth of the game and Justin Lynskey added the clincher with 1:17 showing. Both Mullaney and Kodzis contributed four goals and one assist during the afternoon. The Crusaders comeback spoiled a four-goal effort from Colgate senior Joe Delaney on Senior Day. It marked Delaney's third hat trick of the season and was reminiscent of his five-goal performance two years ago at Lafayette. Saturday's outcomes forged a four-way tie for fifth place in the Patriot League standings heading into the Friday night finales. Colgate, Army West Point, Boston University and Holy Cross all stand at 2-5, with the Raiders traveling to take on 0-7 Lafayette. Army visits 6-1 Loyola and Boston U. goes to Holy Cross. Colgate owns tiebreaking wins over Army and BU but not over Holy Cross. The top six teams qualify for the Patriot League tournament, which begins April 24. Bottom Line Holy Cross 12, Colgate 10 Won-Lost Records • Colgate is now 6-6 overall and 2-5 in the Patriot League. • Holy Cross improved to 4-8 and 2-5. From the Source • Colgate head coach Mike Murphy: (On the game) "We're up three with a little bit more than three minutes left, had a bad turnover and then never saw the ball again. I've got to do a better job of coaching them. We've been trying to preach finish all year long, and we weren't able to finish today. "You've got to credit Joe Delaney. He did a good job. We just needed a little bit more. "As I said to the team, we're in playoff mode. We've got to win to get in and move on, so we've got to have a good week of practice."
