A low-scoring slugfest with first place in the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) on the line remained a nail0biter most of the way Saturday afternoon, as Capital pulled away late to emerge with an 11-7 victory over Otterbein. The Cardinals, carrying a five-game winning streak into Bernlohr Stadium, drop their first league game of the season after host Capital posted five goals in the fourth quarter. Otterbein is now 10-4 on the spring. The Crusaders, meanwhile, win their 11th-straight contest en route to a 12-1 overall record and perfect 6-0 against the conference. Capital's only loss this season is an 8-7 decision against Kenyon. HOW IT HAPPENED: Both teams traded a pair of early goals, as Luke Wyatt scored twice for the home team before Joe Sanfillipo and Judston Huston put Otterbein on the board. The game went into halftime locked at 3-3, as Robby Field converted a man-up goal with 55 seconds before the break off a pass from Xander Seal. Capital outscored Otterbein 3-1 in the third period, and then tallied two more early in the fourth to open an 8-4 margin. Otterbein responded with goals from Huston and Jake Grundey at the 9:52 mark, but Capital ended the game on a 3-1 run. INSIDE THE BOX SCORE: Huston led the Cards with three points, while Wyatt and Zack Heflin secured hat tricks for the home side. Capital won the battle at the faceoff X, as Tyler Faig and Lake Harris went a combined 13 of 21 against Mike Roman. The Crusaders held a 43-29 shot advantage, forcing Otterbein goalie Zachary Groene to make 13 saves throughout. Otterbein now sits in a three-way time amongst the league standings with Baldwin Wallace and Ohio Northern. UP NEXT: The Cardinals will have the middle of next week off before resuming action on Good Friday, hosting Muskingum at noon inside Memorial Stadium.
