The New England College men's lacrosse snaps a six-game skid, as the Pilgrims defeated Emmanuel College 15-7 in non-conference action Thursday afternoon at Don Melander Field. Following the game, the Pilgrims improve to 2-7 on the year, while the Saints fall to 2-6 on the season. NEC LEADERS Connor Smith had a game-high five goals, while Charles Hacking recorded four goal and three assists. Connor Fries led the way with 10 ground balls, while Austin Frankel had nine ground ball and won 11 of 14 face-offs. Maxime Danis led the defensive effort, as he had a game-high three caused turnovers, but four other players recorded two caused turnovers. EMMANUEL LEADERS The Saints received four goals from Ben Harting-Orr, with two assists coming from Andrew Alden. Connor Prangley led Emmanuel with seven ground balls, while Sebastian Zelaya caused two turnovers. HOW IT HAPPENED New England College jumped out to the fast start, as Reilly Parker scored 39 seconds into the game. The Pilgrims lead would quickly grow as they got goals from both Connor Smith and Jacob Blanchette, pushing it to 3-0 three minutes in. After Emmanuel got a goal from Ben Harting-Orr, NEC got two goals from Smith and Austin Frankel with under 20 seconds remaining in the quarter. The Saints struck first, as they received a goal from Harting-Orr, but New England College responded with two goals to close out the half. The hosting Pilgrims stretched their advantage to 8-2 with a goal coming from Charles Hacking, 15 seconds into the third quarter. Emmanuel College got within five with a goal from Charlie Stutzenberge at the 11:40 mark, but the Pilgrims rattled off six consecutive goals to close out the period, up 14-3. In the fourth quarter, the Saints struck first as Harting-Orr struck two minutes into the frame. Bryce Wilbur answered for New England College to put their up 15-4 with just 10 minutes remaining in regulation. The Saints would get three consecutive goals to close out the game. GOALTENDERS Will Platt picked up his 38th career win after six saves. 38 wins is the most for a Pilgrims goalie since 2000. Aric Graves registered 13 saves in the contest.
