The Norwich University men's lacrosse team prevailed by a 13-5 final score over the Spartans of Castleton University on Wednesday night, as the two teams joined forces for the annual Connor Roberts Memorial Game held on Sabine Field. The Cadets established control early, scoring three straight unanswered goals to start the game. Luc Issa finally picked up a Castleton goal, but Norwich quickly responded with goals from Jack Anzalone (Ridgewood, N.J.) and Peter Orlandella (Wayland, Mass.) to make it 5-1. The two teams traded goals for the remainder of the half, and Norwich headed into the halftime break with an 8-3 lead. The second half nearly mirrored the first, with the Cadet defense only allowing two goals over the remaining 30 minutes of play while the offense saw five different Cadets score to seal up the 13-5 victory. Cody Moore (Canton, N.Y.) led the way once again with another hat trick, as he's scored in every game so far this season. John Jennings (Riva, Maryland) had a game-high three assists to go with a goal, and Payden Masaracchia (Enola, Pa.) notched a pair of goals and an assist to round out the Norwich offensive leaders. Nick Kandra (Crofton, Md.) and Brandon Milburn (Bridgewater, N.J.), the two most recent winners of the GNAC Goalie of the Week honor, split the game in net and combined for 16 saves on 21 shots, as Kandra picked up his third win of the season. After the game, both teams joined together to present a check for $4,940 to the family of Connor Roberts. Connor, who passed away from a sudden heart attack after his sophomore season with Norwich lacrosse in 2014, has his life and impact on both Norwich and Castleton University memorialized every year with the Climb for Connor and CJR Memorial Game events during the school year. The money raised by both programs will go directly to the CJR Memorial Foundation, which awards scholarships to high school students and aids youth sports programs in the St. Albans, Vermont area. Norwich improves to 8-4 on the season with the win. Next up is a Saturday home date with Emmanuel at 1:00 PM, with Norwich's Senior Day ceremony to precede the game.
