The Temple lacrosse team (11-4, 7-3 AAC) fell to the Vanderbilt Commodores (12-5, 7-3 AAC) 10-6 to split the two-game series Sunday afternoon. This result means that Temple will enter the American Athletic Conference as the three seed to face two seed Vanderbilt for the third straight game. Recapping the Game > The first 15 minutes of the game were exceptionally slow. The teams each scored just once, with Abaigeal Ryan finding the back of the net for the Owls. > Julie Schickling notched the second of the game for Temple to give the Owls their first lead of the match 2-1. > Shana Hecht starred in the first half. The junior racked up six saves before allowing her second goal of the game nearly 22 minutes into the half. >The Commodores buried four goals in a row to carry a 5-2 lead into halftime. >The teams traded goals to open the second half, with Ryan earning her second of the game. > Schickling got her second as well to make it 4-7 before Vanderbilt scored two-straight to extend the lead to five (9-4). > Belle Mastropietro scored the last couple for the Owls to bring Temple back within four with 11:12 remaining. > Temple had several quality chances to cut further into the lead. Vanderbilt goalie Paige Gunning denied the Owls the comeback with four saves in the last 11 minutes. The game ended 10-6 favoring the Commodores. Statistically Speaking > Both Temple keepers Hecht and Olivia Martin played well in goal. Hecht made nine saves, mostly in the first half. Martin made six while playing the vast majority of the second. > Three Owls scored two goals each, Mastropietro, Ryan, and Schickling. > Mackenzie Roth paced Temple with two assists. Meghan Hoffman and Gabrielle Kirsch also had one each. Quotable > "We've won a bunch of games in a row, and that confidence is wonderful. However, with a team that wants to go far this season, hopefully getting ourselves a conference championship or be at large for an NCAA bid, we have to keep getting better and understand how to execute at a higher level. We still have things to work on, and there is a next level for this team." -- head coach Bonnie Rosen Next Up > Temple will face Vanderbilt for the third-straight matchup between the two squads in the AAC tournament in Gainsville, FL in two weeks. The match will be streamed on ESPN+.
