The Castleton University men's lacrosse team dropped a neutral-site matchup on Tuesday evening, falling by a final score of 10-5 to SUNY Potsdam at Middlebury College's Alumni Stadium. The Spartans fall to 0-2 on the young season, while Potsdam picks up its first win to sit at 1-2. Potsdam won 11-of-18 face-offs on the day, while Castleton turned it over 20 times to Potsdam's 24 turnovers. Both teams racked up more than 20 ground balls and converted on 18 clear attempts in the contest. Castleton was 2-for-7 on man-up opportunities, while Potsdam went 1-for-2 with the man advantage. Tom Pardew had a pair of goals in the contest for the Spartans, while Jason Sedell and Colin Clark had a goal and an assist each. Matteo Perantoni also picked up an assist for the Spartans in the contest and Luc Issa picked up four ground balls. Brandon Myron suffered his second loss of the season, stopping five shots in the first half before giving way to Maxx Ingison for the second half. Ingison stopped five shots as well, while each goalie allowed five scores. Josh Hiuatt had two goals and two helpers for the Beards in the contest to lead the way, while teammate Alec Miller had two goals and an assist. Kyle Smith tallied a pair of goals for a multi-point day, and Cole Zeller led the team with four ground-ball pickups. Zach Sheridan earned his first win of the year in goal, stopping 14 shots between the pipes for Potsdam. The Bears opened the game on a 4-0 run in the first quarter, carrying a solid advantage into the second quarter. Pardew got the Spartans on the board with a man-up goal just 90 seconds into the period, before scoring again late in the half to make it a 5-2 game going into the break. Castleton gained ground again in the third quarter, cutting the deficit to 7-5 going to the final 15 minutes after goals from Cameron Russell, Sedell and Clark—the last of which came on a man-up situation with less than a minute to play in the frame. Potsdam outscored Castleton 3-0 in the final 15 minutes to push the lead to 10-5, giving the game its final score. The Spartans return to the field on Thursday at SUNY-Canton. Game time is slated for 6 p.m.
