The North Central University (Minn.) men's lacrosse team played a home game at Elliot Park for the first time this season, hosting Cornell University from Iowa. The Rams tied their season- and program-best mark for goals in a game, but ultimately fell to Cornell 24-10 in Midwest Lacrosse Conference (MLC) action. NCU matched Cornell in the first and third quarters, but a big second quarter performance by the visitors made it a difficult comeback effort for North Central. NCU held 2-1 and 3-2 leads thanks to goals from Tim Dokken, Brendan Berg, and DJ O'Brien. However, the host-Rams went scoreless in Period 2, while the Cornell Rams got nine shots past defending goalie Paul Mellendorf. North Central's six-goal third quarter closed the gap a bit, but Cornell went on a 5-0 run late in the period before continuing scoring with six more goals in the fourth. Dokken and Berg each had four goals for NCU with Dokken assisting O'Brien's make as well. For Cornell, Kyle Jussila scored six times. A week after his 30-save performance last Satruday, Mellendorf had 14 saves against Cornell. North Central will head out for a pair of road games next week. Wednesday night will feature the Rams at their closest competitor, Northwestern, before NCU heads to suburban Chicago on Saturday to face Benedictine.
