PHILADELPHIA - In a game that saw eight ties, it was Lafayette who finally strung together a run of goals in the final nine minutes to edge past Temple lacrosse in a 13-10 loss for the Owls (1-4). The Leopards (3-0) trailed 10-9 before scoring the game's final four goals. Keys to the Game > Lafayette's closing run marked the only time in the game that either team scored more than two goals in a row. > Temple had 23 shots on goal compared to 19 for the Leopards, but Quinn Lacy stopped 13 shots in the cage for Lafayette. > Free-position opportunities made the difference in the end, as Lafayette went 5-for-7 while Temple was just 1-of-2. Individual Highlights > Senior Amber Lambeth put together her first multiple-goal game of the year for the Owls, scoring a team-best three goals for her seventh career hat trick. > Juniors Maddie Gebert and Julia Ryan added two goals each. > Juniors Meghan Hoffman and Abby Overman both scored, as did sophomore Bridget Whitaker. Overman also added an assist, and freshman Gabrielle Kirsch notched one assist as well. > Lambeth corralled five draw controls to lead the Owls, while freshman Wynston Archer made a strong debut later in the game and recorded three draws. > Sophomore Courtney Taylor led the team with three caused turnovers. First Half > The teams nearly perfectly traded two goals apiece throughout the half, until the final five minutes when one Temple goal was followed by two Lafayette goals and the Leopards took a 6-5 lead into halftime. > Temple finished the first half with a 17-13 lead in total shots. Second Half > After ties at 6-6, 7-7, 8-8 and 9-9, the Owls took a 10-9 lead on Lambeth's third goal with 14:38 remaining. > The goal would prove to be the last for the Owls, who gave up the tying goal with 12:54 remaining and the final three goals over the last eight and a half minutes. Quotable - Head Coach Bonnie Rosen > "Lacrosse is a game of possession. The key is to gain momentum and let the ball do the work and put the ball in the net and come up with it again off the draw. Anytime the game is still in the 50/50 world of who's getting the ball, the game is a toss-up. One area where our play is letting us down a little bit is that anytime we gained momentum we don't come up with that next draw control or we foul and turn the ball over or we threw the ball away or take an errant shot. I think this team is young and hungry but hasn't recognized those pivotal moments when you have to take care of the ball." > "I think early on, we did a really nice job of creating space for 1v1 opportunities where the slides were far away but I think Lafayette made some adjustments and tightened up their defense and unfortunately I think we stood next to ball a little too much." > "No (the game never felt out of reach). Maybe in the last 30 seconds. I give credit to Lafayette. We've won the last few and they wanted this one badly. They're off to a good start. The game was never out of reach but we also never put it out of reach. A game like that can swing either way and it did that against us in the end." Up Next > The Owls will head to nearby La Salle for a 3 p.m. game on Tuesday, March 5.
