Westminster (10-6) defeated Adams State (3-10), 18-8, and will meet Colorado Mesa (10-6) in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) Final for the fourth straight year. Westminster and Colorado Mesa (CMU) have met in the final each year since the RMAC added men's lacrosse in the conference in 2016. The Griffins put on one of their best performances this season. Blake Gross scored a hat-trick in the first period and the Griffins jumped out to a 6-1 lead. Adams State scored a pair of goals to start the second period and make. Westminster responded by scoring four unanswered goals to for an eight-point half-time lead, 10-3. Westminster outscored the Grizzlies, 4-3, and increased its lead over the visitors. Junior Nick Marcy scored twice and Gross scored once to increase their goal total to four. The Griffins finished with four more goals in the fourth period and a double-digit lead, 18-8. Westminster dominated the game out shooting Adams State 55-29 with 41 shots on goal. The Griffins score could have been more but Adams State goalie Brendan Williams had another impressive showing with 23 saves, his third straight game and fourth of the season with 20+ goals. The Griffins grabbed 53 ground balls, were 21-24 on clearances and won 16-29 face offs. Marcy, usually the provider, flipped his role and led the Griffins with five goals. He took 12 shots, with 10 on goal, and picked up three ground balls. Gross was 5-6 for shots on goal and finished with four goals and four ground balls. Senior Grant Phillips and freshman Spencer Whinery led Westminster's defensive efforts. Phillips picked up four ground balls and caused three turnovers. Whinery led the team with five ground balls and also provided two assists. Usually the provider, junior Nick Marcy switched his role and led the team with five goals. Junior Goalies Sean Edwards and Phil Cannell combined for 14 saves. Edwards faced 22 shots and made 10 saves for a .625 save percentage. Cannell faced seven shots and made four saves for a .667 savae percentage. The Griffins and Mavericks faceoff in the final at 2 PM on Saturday, May 4, on Dumke Field.
