The Neumann University men's lacrosse team took home a huge win in the Atlantic East Conference first round, picking up a 10-8 victory over Marywood University on Saturday afternoon. Colin Blake was outstanding on attack in the win for the Knights, tallying three goals and three assists to finish with six points to lead the team. Drew Conlon (1 g, 2 a) and Brett McLaughlin (2 g, 1 a) each registered three points, while Chris Augustine added two assists. Brendan Risley picked up the win in goal, making 12 saves to continue his stellar play of late. Despite a convincing 9-3 win over the Pacers just three days ago, Neumann knew it would have its hands full with a hungry Marywood team looking for revenge. The visitors showed they were ready to avenge their loss on Wednesday with two of the first three goals of the contest to take a 2–1 lead midway through the first frame. Drew Conlon scored at the 10:19 mark of the quarter to get the Knights on the board, but it would take until the final minute of the period to find the back of the net again. Blake set up a McLaughlin goal at the 55 second mark for his second assist of the frame to level the score at 2-2 after the first. The game would remain tightly contested throughout the second stanza. Neumann took its first lead of game with 6:13 left in the half, as Blake picked up his third assist of the day on a tally from Ryan McNichol. Marywood answered back to bring the score back to even at 3-3, but Blake capped off his stellar first half with another moment of brilliance to nudge the Knights back in front. Switching from playmaker to sniper, the junior attacker ripped home a goal at 3:17 to give the hosts a halftime lead of 4-3. Marywood squashed any Neumann momentum early after the break, scoring twice in the opening 5:33 of the period to retake the lead 5-4. That would be the final advantage of the day for the Pacers though. Saving their best play for late in the quarter, the Knights fought back with four unanswered goals in the final five minutes of the frame to jump back out to an 8-5 edge. Blake and McLaughlin started the run with back-to-back goals just 12 seconds apart to move Neumann back in front. Kyle Daly then scored on a beautiful behind the back goal at 1:13, followed by another Blake goal with 24 seconds left in the period off an excellent back-door feed from Chris Augustine. The Pacers would not go quietly, scoring just 34 seconds into the final quarter to bring the score-line back to 8-6. That was as close as things would get the rest of way though, as Eric Conlon and Wyatt Belotti each scored man-up goals to regain a four goal advantage for the Knights at 10-6. Marywood made it interesting with a few late goals, but Risley and the Neumann defense held up late to seal the 10-8 win and send the Knights to the Atlantic East Conference semifinals. With Marymount's win over Wesley in the other first round contest, Neumann (9-6, 4-2 Atlantic East) will head to Cabrini on Wednesday, May 1st for a matchup with the top-seeded Cavaliers. Game time is to be determined.
