The University of Richmond men's lacrosse team improved to 2-1 in Southern Conference play as the Spiders (5-4, 2-1 SoCon) recorded a 15-12 victory over High Point (1-7, 1-1 SoCon) Saturday afternoon at Robins Stadium. The game was a tale of two halves with the teams combining for just seven goals in the first half but combining for 20 goals in the second half. Hat tricks from Teddy Hatfield, Ryan Lee and Mitch Savoca led the way for the Spiders while Mitch Goldberg and Eric Haehl each recorded two goals in the victory. High Point opened the scoring just 40 seconds into the game as Asher Nolting scored his 18th of the season to give the Panthers the early lead. Richmond responded with three-straight goals in a span of 1:41, taking a 3-1 edge only six minutes into the game. Tate Gallagher opened the scoring with his second of the season before Haehl scored two-straight in 50 seconds. The Spiders extended their lead to 4-1 at the 7:37 mark of the first quarter when junior Coleman Kissick tallied his first of the season forcing a HPU timeout. The teams traded goals the remainder of the first half with Richmond holding a 5-2 lead at the break. The third quarter saw the offenses come to life as the teams combined for 10 goals with Richmond holding a 10-7 lead at the end of 45 minutes. Lee scored two in the third quarter for the Spiders while Connor Robinson added a pair for the Panthers. Hatfield gave the Spiders the momentum heading to the fourth quarter, scoring his first goal of the game with 1.1 seconds left in the third. High Point scored in the first minute of the quarter for the third time Saturday, once again pulling within two at 10-8. Robinson scored his third of the game and third in a span of 7:37 in the second half. Richmond came back with a big response, scoring five consecutive taking a 15-8 lead with 3:16 remaining. Hatfield and Savoca each scored two goals during the span while Goldberg also found the net giving the Spiders' the largest lead of the day. The Panthers made things interesting down the stretch, scoring four goals in the final 2:32 of the game to narrow the final score to 15-12. Richmond returns to action next Saturday when it travels to No. 10 Virginia. Game time is set for 3 p.m. in Charlottesville.
