Senior midfielder Cole Jamieson (Okemos, Mich.) scored 3 goals and senior attacker Steven Hildebrand (Berwyn, Pa./Conestoga) and senior attacker Max Tennant (Englewood, Colo./Cherry Creek) added 2 goals apiece as Ohio Wesleyan built a 9-1 first-quarter lead and went on to defeat Kenyon in a semifinal matchup of the North Coast Athletic Conference tournament on Thursday at Selby Stadium. Ohio Wesleyan advances to the NCAC tournament championship game against 11th-ranked Denison on Sunday in Granville. The game time will be announced on Friday. Jamieson entered the Bishops into the scoring column in the second minute of play, then set up Hildebrand for a goal at the 11:46 mark of the first quarter. Hildebrand paid it forward by feeding sophomore attacker Will Anton (Madison, N.J.) for a goal just 8 seconds after that, and Tennant rang up a goal to make it 4-0 less than 5 minutes into the action. Matt Pollack put Kenyon on the scoreboard with a man-up goal midway through the first quarter, but Ohio Wesleyan closed out the period with 5 straight goals, with Hildebrand and senior midfielder Jack Jeschke (Syracuse, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy) scoring less than a minute apart, Jamieson tallying back-to-back scores, and Tennant closing out the quarter with a goal off a Jeschke feed. The Lords got consecutive goals from Sam Humphrey and Will Harrigon to pull within 10-3 early in the second period, but Ohio Wesleyan scored the next 10 goals to break the game open, with Hildebrand setting up Tennant and Jamieson before scoring one on his own, Tennant finding the back of the net 3 more times during the quarter, and senior attacker Drew Gouhin (Powell/Olentangy Liberty) adding 2 goals. Tennant led the Bishops with 7 goals. The 7 goals raised his season total to 74, surpassing the 70-goal mark for the second straight season -- the only Ohio Wesleyan men's lacrosse player to have reached that figure. The 7 goals also raised his career total to 258, ranking third all-time in NCAA Division III. Hildebrand finished with 5 goals and 3 assists, and Jamieson had 5 goals and an assist. Junior Joey Sichenzia (Sayville, N.Y.) had 9 saves during the first half, and sophomore Zach Brasser (Westport, Conn./Millbrook (N.Y.) School) and freshman Gabe Tonucci (Cincinnati/Milford) combined for 3 saves during the second half. Humphrey led Kenyon with 3 goals. David Metzger and Mayo Amorello combined for 15 saves for the Lords.
