The third-seeded Spiders scored the opening five goals of their Atlantic 10 Quarterfinal matchup with Duquesne and didn't look back, downing the sixth-seeded Dukes 20-8 in a record-breaking performance on Thursday afternoon at George Mason Stadium. With the win, the Spiders improve to 15-3 on the season and advance to face No. 2 seed and host Geoge Mason on Friday afternoon. The Spiders totaled 35 points on the afternoon, setting a new Atlantic 10 Tournament single-game record. Richmond's 15 assists were also a tournament single-game record. The Spiders scored on 20 of their 28 shots, taking 25 shots on goal. Sam Geiersbach led the way with nine points – tying the A-10 Tournament single-game record – scoring four goals and adding five assists, which also tied the single-game record. Mia Castagnero's career high-tying six goal performance tied the A-10 single season mark as well. Geiersbach started the scoring off an assist from Katie Sciandra in the second minute of play, before Sciandra was assisted by Reagan Williams less than a minute later. Aly Fries, Evelyn Roberts and Madison Ostrick all tallied their first goals of the game over the next three minutes, all assisted by Geierbach. Duquesne got on the board in the sixth minute, before Castagnero and Geiersbach scored unassisted goals and Julia Schmuckler and Roberts were both assisted by Marissa Brown for the 9-1 advantage. After another pair of Suauesne goals to cut the Spider lead to six, Castagnero scored three more goals and Schmuckler added to the lead with one to give Richmond a 13-3 lead. Brown, Geiersbach and Williams all logged assists in the run. Both teams managed to score in the closing minutes, with Geierbach completing the hat trick off an assist from Jillian Becker for the 14-4 halftime lead. The Dukes scored the opening two goals of the second half, but Williams fed Castagnero and Becker assisted Geiersbach to extend the Spider lead back to 10 with just under 26 minutes to play in the half. The Spiders had the momentum through the rest of the half, as they outscored the Dukes over the remainder of the game 4-2. Becker was assisted by Geiersback and Castagnero and Kendall Wisinski scored, before Becca Curro capped the game with a behind-the-back goal off an assist from Wisinski. Megan Gianforte had a big day in goal for the Spiders, stopping 11 Duquesne shots while allowing seven goals in 51 minutes of play. Danni LeServe also logged a save in the win. Julie Ball led the Spider defense with three caused turnovers, while five Spiders collected two ground balls on the day. Richmond's A-10 Semifinal matchup with George Mason at George Mason Stadium is scheduled for Friday, April 26, at 4 p.m.
