The Coastal Carolina lacrosse team had its 2019 season come to an end Thursday afternoon as the third-seeded Chanticleers fell 18-8 to No. 2 Liberty in the semifinals of the 2019 ASUN Championship at Brooks Stadium. The loss spoiled a record-setting performance for senior attacker Haley Alexander, whose four goals gave her the Coastal Carolina single-season goals record with 55 in 2019. Alexander also owned the previous record after netting 51 goals during the 2018 season. Liberty, which led for the entirety of the game, opened and closed the first half with streaks of four unanswered goals before nearly doubling Coastal's scoring output in the second half, 8-5. The Flames held the Chants to consecutive goals twice all afternoon while causing 14 of Coastal's 19 turnovers. Liberty received goals from nine different players, including a game-high five tallies from Anna Keebler. Carly White added three goals for the Flames, while Mia Toscano and Kayla Foster provided two each. Katherine Widrick earned the win in net for Liberty, stopping eight of 16 shots for a .500 saves percentage. Alexander's four goals were scored on six shots, and the senior added three draw controls. Behind Alexander, Coastal's scoring included a pair of markers each by Lauren Cremen and Carlie Doughty. Harley Barrett saved 12 of Liberty's 30 shots on goal while snagging a pair of ground balls. The Flames broke the ice quickly with a goal by Grace Fletcher 40 seconds into the game and added three more over the next five minutes to take a 4-0 lead. Alexander netted her first marker of the day, and 52nd of the season, at 24:16 of the frame to surpass her previous single-season goals record. Following two more Liberty goals and a tally by Cremen, Alexander got back on the board at 13:13 to cut the Flames' lead to 6-3. Liberty answered with four consecutive goals, including two from Keebler, over the final 11 minutes of the first half to take a 10-3 lead into halftime. Keebler was the first on the scoresheet to start the second half, slotting her fourth of the day less than three minutes into the period. Alexander then brought her scoring total to four after scoring consecutive goals just three minutes apart to make it an 11-5 game with 21:18 remaining. Coastal pulled no closer than six goals for the remainder of the regulation, however, as Liberty outscored the Chants 7-3 over the final 20 minutes. Coastal ends its season 12-6 as its bid for a third straight ASUN championship game appearance fell short. Liberty advances to Saturday's championship game where the Flames will take on top-seeded Jacksonville at Brooks Stadium.
