Emmitsburg, Md. (May 2, 2019) – The Mount St. Mary's women's lacrosse team cruised past Bryant, 18-4, in the Northeast Conference Semifinals on Thursday at Waldron Family Stadium to collect the team's first playoff win since 2012. The Mountaineers extended their program-best win streak to 13 straight, while also setting a new program record with their 16th overall win of the season. The top-seeded Mountaineers will make their seventh NEC Championship Game appearance on Saturday, taking on No. 2 seed Wagner at 12 p.m. at Waldron Family Stadium. Jordan Butler, who was named the NEC Offensive Player of the Year on Wednesday, led the Mountaineers with a game-high seven points on four goals and three assists. Butler increased her season totals to 76 points and 58 goals, as she now holds the Mount single-season record for points and also sits just six shy of tying the goal record. NEC Rookie of the Year Jordan Groover recorded a game-high seven draw controls, as she moved into first place on the Mount's single-season list for most draws. Groover now has 74 on the year, surpassing Beanie Colson's previous record of 70, which was set last season. Emily Davis also added five draws in the game, as she pushed her season total to 70 to match Colson's mark from 2018. Alayna Pagnotta helped pace the attack with four goals and one helper in the contest. Emily Davis (3g) and Kate Kinsella (2g, 1a) each finished with three points, and Colson and Zoe Hurlburt added two goals apiece, as the Mountaineers had six players finish with multi-point performances. The Mount defense shut down Bryant, holding the Bulldogs to just 20 shots total and a .200 shot percentage. Goalie Jillian Petito made seven saves to collect her 16th win of the season between the pipes. The Mount (16-2) outshot Bryant (8-9) by a 30-20 margin in the tilt, and also held advantages in both draw controls, 15-9, and ground balls, 13-9. After a goal for Bryant's Emily Diaz to open the game, the Mount responded with seven straight in a span of just over five minutes to take a commanding 7-1 advantage. Butler scored three of her four goals during the span, while Davis contributed a pair. Caitlin Bolen broke up the run with Bryant's second goal of the game, but the Mount closed out the half with the final two tallies to stretch the lead to 9-2. Diaz once again opened the scoring in the second half with her second of the game, but the Mountaineers answered by rattling off four straight, including two from Pagnotta, to make it a 13-3 game at the 25:56 mark and force a running clock. The Mount scored five of the game's final six goals to close out the convincing 18-4 victory and earn a spot in the NEC Championship game.
