BALTIMORE, Md. – The No. 14 Navy women's lacrosse team (15-3) used a record-breaking night to post a 20-10 victory over rival Army West Point (14-5) in the semifinals of the Patriot League Tournament. With the win, the Midshipmen advance to the championship against top-seeded Loyola on Saturday at noon. The game will be televised on CBS Sports Network. "I am so proud of the Navy women's lacrosse program," head coach Cindy Timchal said after the game. "Army is a tough team to play in the first game of the Patriot League Tournament. It was a great game. It was tough early on. I am proud of our players for playing through some challenging situations and coming through in the end." The Midshipmen tied the school record with 26 draw controls on the night as a team. Reagan Roelofs (Apple Valley, Minn.) broke the Navy and Patriot League Tournament single-game record with 18 draws in the game. The previous Patriot League Tournament record was set by Sabrina Tabasso in 2017, while the Navy single-game record was 15, held by Julia Collins (2015-18) and Loren Generi (2012-15). The rookie, who now has 124 draws, also surpassed Generi's freshman record of 118 draws. Offensively, Navy tallied 20 goals on 42 shots. Nicole Victory (Issaquah, Wash.) led the team with a new career-best nine points on the night. The sophomore scored four goals, while adding five assists – all of Navy's helpers in the game. Her previous career high of eight points also occurred against the Black Knights, as the sophomore tallied two goals and six assists on April 13 in Annapolis. Kelly Larkin (Alexandria, Va.) tied a career-high with six goals in the game. With her six scores, Larkin now ranks second in Navy and Patriot League history with 335 career points. She is one back of tying Jasmine DePompeo (2010-13) with 336 points and two shy of breaking the record outright. Annalise Heyward (Charlotte, N.C.) also registered a hat trick on the evening. The junior finished the game with a career-high four goals to go along with a team-high three ground balls, a draw control and a caused turnover. Natalie Irwin (Annandale, Va.) and Moriah Snyder (Bel Air, Md.) also chipped in two goals apiece. Gab Harchelroad (Pittsburgh, Pa.) finished the game with six saves and 10 goals allowed. The senior picked up her 14th victory of the season to tie Elaina Ponchione (2009-12) for fifth most victories in a season. Army West Point jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first 90 seconds, marking the Black Knights' first lead in the series. Navy responded with six straight goals to take a 6-1 advantage with just over 23 minutes remaining in the first half. Larkin opened the scoring with back-to-back goals to tie Jenna Collins (2015-18) for second all-time in career points with 331. Irwin followed with a goal off a Victory assist. Victory increased the advantage with back-to-back goals. Larkin concluded the run with her third goal of the first half off a helper by Victory. Following a Black Knight goal, Victory once again found Irwin for a goal to move the score to 7-2. Army West Point used consecutive goals to close the gap to 7-4, but Heyward scored to push the advantage back to four. After a Black Knight goal, Andie O'Sullivan (Valley Cottage, N.Y.) converted a free-position opportunity and Larkin followed with a goal to push the lead to 10-5. Up 10-6, Larkin recorded her fifth goal of the half with just 3.8 ticks on the clock to send the game into halftime with Navy up 11-6. In the second half, Navy outscored Army West Point, 9-4, in the second half. Heyward started the second-half scoring with a free-position goal. After a Black Knight goal, the Midshipmen tripe of Heyward, Roelofs, and Victory rattled off three straight goals to push the lead to 15-7. Army scored, but Navy responded with goals by Heyward, Snyder, Larkin, and Victory to push the lead to 19-8 and start the running clock. Back-to-back goals by the Black Knights halted the running clock, but Snyder's second goal of the night with 95 seconds to play provided the final margin of 20-10. Navy competes in the championship game for the 10th time in the Midshipmen's 12-year history. The Mids are 6-3 all-time in the Patriot League title game with victories each of the last two seasons. It will be the fifth straight year that Navy and Loyola will meet for the championship. Opening draw is slated for 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 4. The game will be aired on CBS Sports Networks and live stats will also be available.
