Loyola University Maryland women's lacrosse senior Hannah Powers tied the program's all-time career record for points, finishing with a game-high nine today to move her four-year total to 311, as the 11th-ranked Greyhounds knocked off Richmond, 19-6, in the first round of the NCAA Championships at Princeton's Class of 1952 Stadium. The Greyhounds won 14 of the 17 first-half draw controls and outdrew the Spiders 23-4 for the game, as Loyola rattled off 12 first-half goals, en route to the win. Powers led all players with five goals and four assists, while sophomore Livy Rosenzweig scored once and added four goals. Sophomore Elli Kluegel also contributed five goals. With 311 career points, Powers ties Grace Gavin's school record from 2008-11. Sophomore Sam Fiedler added three goals and an assist for the Greyhounds (16-4 overall), while senior Emily Cooper had two goals and one assist. Senior Amanda Ignacio, senior Taylor VanThof and sophomore Emily Beier rounded out the scoring for Loyola. Richmond (17-4) was led by Katie Sciandra's two goals. Loyola strung together two six-goal runs to pull ahead 12-2 by the 7:15 mark. Rosenzweig scored first, followed by goals from Fiedler, Beier, Cooper, Fiedler and Powers. The Greyhounds' second six-goal run was sparked by three-straight from Powers. Fiedler then added one before back-to-back scores from Kluegel put Loyola up 12-2. The Spiders answered with a pair of goals before the break to cut Loyola's lead to eight, 12-4. The Greyhounds won the first four draws of the second half and used four-straight goals - from Cooper, VanThof, Kluegel and Powers - to stretch their lead back to double digits, 16-4, by the 21:53 mark. The Spiders scored two of the next three goals, but Ignacio and Kluegel wrapped up the scoring in the game to bring the final score to 19-6. Defensively, senior Kady Glynn came up with seven saves in goal, while classmate Lindsey Ehrhardt caued a game-high four turnovers. On the draw, VanThof and Rosenzweig each won eight draw controls, while Powers finished with six. The Greyhounds will return to action on Sunday at 1 p.m. when they face the winner of No. 7 seed Princeton vs. Wagner.
