Senior captain Ida Farinholt came through in the clutch to give No. 23 women's lacrosse a hard-fought 11-10 win over UMass on Saturday at Tierney Field. With 1:56 left in the second overtime period, Taylor Reed fed Farinholt right in front of the net to give her the game-winning look. Early on in the game, Cornell held a 6-3 lead, but the Minutewomen scored four unanswered to hold a 7-6 lead heading into halftime. Both teams revved up the defense in the second period with the Big Red scoring four while the opposition notched three scores to deadlock it at 10-10 at the end of regulation. Reed led the way with three goals and one assist for four points while Caroline Allen recorded a hat trick as well. Farinholt scooped up five ground balls and Joey Coffy controlled eight draws. Cait Callahan caused four turnovers while Farinholt was also strong defensively with three. Goalkeeper Katie McGahan made 10 saves in the victory while UMass's Lauren Hiller had 11. The close score reflected the stats between the two teams with Cornell having the slight 25-24 advantage in ground balls and a 14-12 count in draw controls. With shots being 14-13 in favor of UMass after the first half, the Big Red turned it up a notch to outshoot the opposition 16-7 in the second. The team returns home to Schoellkopf Field for a Tuesday tilt with Syracuse this Tuesday at 5 p.m
