Carly Wooters (White Plains, N.Y.) recorded three points, including the 100th of her career, but the University of New Hampshire women's lacrosse team was defeated 13-7 by Binghamton University in Saturday afternoon's regular-season finale at Bearcats Sports Complex. Wooters tallied a goal and two assists to increase her career totals to 82 goals and 19 assists for 101 points. Elizabeth Blanding (Pittsford, N.Y.), the beneficiary of two of those assists, scored a team-high three goals. UNH starting goalie Kate Clancy (Barrington, R.I.) made a season-high 13 saves, including 10 in the first half to keep the Wildcats within 4-3 through 30 minutes. Clancy yielded 10 goals in 45 minutes, 18 seconds. Amanda Gottlieb (Canton, Conn.), who entered the game when the Wildcats closed within 10-6 at 14:42 of the second half, stopped 1 of 4 shots on goal the rest of the way. Binghamton was led offensively by Briane Arthur (five goals), Riffany Ryan (two goals, two assists), Jacqueline Kennedy (2g, 1a) and Rebecca Golderman (1g, 2a). E Jehle was credited with 11 saves. UNH ends the regular season at 6-10 overall and 4-3 in America East. Binghamton improved to 8-8, 5-2. UP NEXT New Hampshire is the No. 4 seed in the upcoming America East Championships and will play #1 ranked and top-seeded Stony Brook University in a May 4 semifinal at LaValle Stadium. THE DIFFERENCE Binghamton's 5-1 run the opening 8:12 of the second half transformed a 4-3 halftime lead into a 9-4 advantage. HOW IT HAPPENED Binghamton was issued the first yellow card of the game at 28:42, but the Bearcats struck first on a player-down goal by Arthur at 28:03. With the Wildcats still on the player-up advantage, Blanding scored 25 seconds later to tie the score, 1-1, at 27:38. The Bearcats went back in front, 2-1, on Ryan's free-position goal at 23:14. Clancy denied Katie Gaudet on a free position at 20:45 to keep the margin at one goal. Ryan scored a player-up goal at 15:31 to extend the home team's lead to 3-1. Binghamton called time out with that two-goal advantage and 11-3 edge in shots. Anna Vogt (Stratham, N.H.) converted a free position into her eighth goal of the season and trimmed the deficit to 3-2 at 9:49. One minute later, Clancy turned aside Jocelyn Penteck twice within a matter of seconds – the latter on a free position – to keep the difference at one goal. At the other end of the field Caroline Hernon (Hampton, N.H.) netted a free-position goal to tie the score, 3-3, at 7:14. The string of free-position goals continued, this time for the Bearcats' Arthur at 7:14 to give Binghamton a 4-3 lead. Clancy made four saves in the last four minutes to keep the margin at one goal. She denied Arthur at 3:40, then turned away Skye Schumacher and Alyssa Sanchez with 90 seconds to play, and made another save against Paige Volkmann on a free position with 49 seconds on the clock. Hernon's shot in the closing seconds was blocked. Binghamton opened the second-half scoring on Golderman's tally at 29:22 to reestablish a two-goal lead, 5-3. Wooters scored her 33rd goal of the season on a free position to once again pull UNH within one goal, 5-4, at 27:02. Volkmann finished Golderman's feed at 26:31 to give the Bearcats a 6-4 lead. Clancy stopped a player-up free position by Jacqueline Kennedy at 25:48, but Arthur converted her opportunity 20 seconds later to extend the advantage to 7-4. Alissa Franze scored consecutive goals at 22:45 and 21:48 for a 9-4 cushion. Rebecca Sennott (Westford, Mass.) lifted New Hampshire within 9-5 on her 10th goal of the season at 18:21, which prompted the Bearcats to call a timeout. Kennedy controlled the ensuing draw and scored at 17:36 to reestablish a five-goal lead, 10-5. Wooters recorded her second point of the game on Blanding's second goal of the game at 14:42 to reach the 100-point milestone and make the score 10-6. Rebecca Sennott was awarded a free position less than a minute later, but Jehle made the save to preserve Binghamton's four-goal lead. Kennedy and Arthur scored free-position goals at 13:16 and 7:09, respectively, to extend the advantage to 12-6. Blanding once again finished a feed from Wooters at 4:51, but Gaudet scored 40 seconds later at the other end of the field to push the score to 13-7. Neither team scored the rest of the way. UNH NOTEBOOK This is the third consecutive year and fourth time in five years that UNH is the #4 seed and will play top-seeded Stony Brook. Cat Sennott (Westford, Mass.) recorded three ground balls and caused turnovers. Lizzie Suschana (Somers, Conn.) was credited with three GBs and one CTO. Blanding's three-goal effort is her second career multiple-goal game. INSIDE THE NUMBERS Binghamton is now 1-16 lifetime vs. New Hampshire. The previous three games at Bearcats Sports Complex were decided by a total of four goals.
