The Red Foxes fell 13-11 to defending MAAC Champs Canisius in the Semifinal round, ending their season. SUMMARY Both teams came into the match with high energy. Hailey Wagner and Camille Renaud took back to back feeds from Kelly George to give Marist the early 2-0 lead. Canisius responded, scoring two goals in 16 seconds. The Red Foxes held Canisius scoreless for the next 20 minutes while chipping in four more goals. The defense did a great job applying pressure and forcing the Golden Griffins to make mistakes. Allie Stewart's fast break right before the end of the half cut in Marist's lead 6-3. The two teams traded goals the first five minutes of the second half with a goal from Morgan Jaycox giving the Red Foxes a 8-5 lead. The Golden Griffins scored three unanswered goals to tie up the game. Devon Connolly took advantage of a women up opportunity to reclaim the lead but two quick scores from Canisius gave them the lead back. With 6:24 left, Hailey Wagner scored her three goal of the game to tie it up 11-11. The Golden Griffins scored two more goals in the next three minutes to take their biggest lead of the game. They won the following draw control and were able to drain the clock and walk away with the win. STATS Jaycox finished the game with two goals and two assists. Hailey Wagner had a team high three goals. Kelly George dished out five assists. Canisius made 13 turnovers in the first half but only had three in the second. The two teams were even in the draw circle with both teams winning it 12 times. Gabby Childrose had a team high three caused turnovers. Notes Morgan Jaycox's 34 assists ranks third in a single season. Kelly George's 28 puts her at fifth. Delaney Galvin's 197 saves is good for fourth in a single season. Quotes "I think they played with a lot of heart," Said Head Coach Jessica Wilkinson. "Our girls came out, ready to go, they were well prepared. Know of them really geared away from the game plan too much. But at the end of the day, they really had a lot of hustle. At the end of the day, I can't complain as a coach. I'm really pround of these girls, proud of our season and they should hold their heads up high." While Marist does lose starting seniors Morgan Jaycox, Lauren Mazza and Stefanie Wenz, the Red Foxes return a young group of talent that expect to be in the thick of competing for a MAAC Championship next season.
