Taking on No. 9 Loyola in the Patriot League Tournament semifinals for the second straight year, the Boston University women's lacrosse team saw its season come to a close as it dropped a 15-6 decision to the Greyhounds Friday afternoon at the Ridley Athletic Complex. With the game tied at 2-2, top-seeded Loyola took advantage of four BU yellow cards and used an 8-0 run to take a commanding 12-3 lead at the half. The Terriers received two goals apiece form Ryann Gaffney, Lexi Lewis and English, but the Terriers' postseason run came to a close in the semifinals for the fourth straight year. How It Happened Gaffney delivered the opening goal by five-holing Loyola's keeper on a free position shot two minutes in. Loyola responded just over a minute later before taking advantage of a woman-up situation to claim a one-goal advantage. Lexi Lewis provided an answer of her own, dodging her way from the top of the crease to make it a 2-2 game with 22:45 left in the frame. The Greyhounds capitalized on two BU yellow cards midway through the half en route to reeling off an 8-0 run over a 10-minute span. English put the Terriers back on the board, going upper-90 with 4:42 remaining until the break to make it a 10-3 game, though Loyola took a 12-3 command at the intermission. Gaffney, Lewis and English each tacked on another goal in the second half, but the deficit was too much to overcome as the Greyhounds advanced to the championship game. Game Notes BU was tabbed for five yellow cards in the first half and six overall. Maria Guerra and Kailey Conry were both sidelined in the second half as each was handed for their second yellow card. Conry saw her 32-game point streak end, finishing with 40 goals and 97 games during the run. Maddie Curley led the team with four ground balls, while Makenzie Howe won game-high six draw controls. Christine Laible recorded eight saves and three ground balls. Thank You Seniors BU's senior class of Sarah Andersen, Maddie Curley, Avery Donahoe, Caroline English, Maria Guerra and Christine Laible has posted a record of 40-34 throughout their four seasons in Boston. The class of 2018 also went 22-13 in Patriot League games and reached the Patriot League Tournament semifinals in each of the past four seasons.
