Villanova, Pa. - Sophomore attackman Luke McCaleb (Chevy Chase, MD) scored three goals, including two in the fourth quarter, to rally Brown from a 6-1 second quarter deficit and come away with a 12-9 win over #4 Villanova, sending the Wildcats (5-1) to their first loss of the season. Trailing 7-5 at the half, Brown (2-2) cut Villanova's lead to 8-7 after three quarters with sophomore middy Levi McCrady (Pittsburgh, PA) scoring both goals for the Bears. The fourth quarter was all Brown as junior middy Brian Prigmore (Vancouver, WA) scored his second goal of the game to tie the score, 8-8, with 12:33 left. Villanova's Keegan Kahn gave the Wildcats their last lead, 9-8, with 9:37 remaining. Brown dominated the rest of the game, finishing with a 4-0 run, started by senior LSM Jake Miller (Hartland, WI), who tied the game, 9-9, and followed by McCaleb, who gave the Bears the lead for good, 10-9, at the 6:18 mark. Junior middy Michael Panepinto and McCaleb closed out the scoring for the Bears with two more unanswered goals. McCaleb finished with three goals and two assists, while Miller, had two goals and an assist. Prigmore, Panepinto and McGrady each added two goals for the Bears. Senior face-off specialist Ted Ottens (Wilton, CT) captured 9-of-13 first half face-offs and finished with 14-of-23 face-off wins. Bears' sophomore goalie Phil Goss (San Francisco, CA) made 11 of his 17 saves in the second half, including six in the fourth quarter. Villanova goalie Nick Testa registered eight saves in goal for the Wildcats. Three Villanova players scored two goals each, including Dan Seibel, Devin McNamara and Colin Crowley. The Bears held Wildcats' top scorer Christian Cuccinello to a goal and an assist. Brown fell behind 4-0 after one quarter and the Wildcats grabbed a 5-0 lead on McNamara's goal early in the second quarter. Prigmore got the Bears on the scoreboard at the 12:34 mark, igniting a 5-2 run that cut the Wildcats' lead to 7-5 at halftime. Brown's second quarter goal were scored by Miller, McCaleb, Panepinto and sophomore Jackson Newsome (Arlington, VA) with one second remaining. Brown returns to action on Saturday, March 17, traveling to Boston, MA to open its Ivy League season against Harvard. Game time is 1:00 pm.
