Sophomore Justin Scott produced a game-high six points and junior Chris Aslanian recorded his 100th career point to lead the Hobart College lacrosse team to a 17-6 victory over Binghamton University on Boswell Field this afternoon. Scott scored a career-high five goals and added an assist. Aslanian reached his career milestone with a goal and two assists, becoming the 12th Division I Statesman to notch 100 points on an assist late in the third quarter. Sophomore Eric Holden and first-year Ryan Archer both had hat tricks. It was Holden's third straight and the second of the season for Archer. First-year Tommy Mott logged two goals and an assist for a season-high three points. Hobart (1-3) finished with a 16-11 advantage at the faceoff X thanks in large part to the work of junior Matthew Pedicine. He was 15-of-24 on the day, including a 7-of-9 effort in the third quarter. Sophomore defenseman Sam Mueller picked up a game-high seven ground balls, one more than Pedicine, helping the Statesmen to a 29-20 advantage on the day. Hobart nearly doubled up the Bearcats in shots, 44-26, and committed five fewer turnovers, 11-16. First-year Jackson Reiger had a team-high three points for BU, handing out three assists. Classmate Will Talbot-Shere was the only Bearcat to score more than once, posting a pair of goals. The visitors opened the scoring five minutes into the contest, but Hobart tied the game less than two minutes later on Archer's extra-man goal. That tally started a run of six straight Statesmen goals. Holden sandwiched goals around Aslanian's strike to give Hobart a 4-1 lead after 15 minutes. Scott and Mott capped the run with second quarter goals before Binghamton snapped out of a more than 20-minute scoreless drought. Each team scored once more in the half, sending the Statesmen into the break with a 7-3 lead. Hobart dominated the third quarter, outshooting BU 14-5, holding an 11-3 edge in ground balls and winning 7-of-9 faceoffs. Scott, Holden, Scott (again) and Archer scored in succession to start the half, stretching the home team's lead to 11-3. Aslanian assisted on Archer's goal for his 99th career point. Binghamton (0-5) got on the board at the 5:29 mark, but less than a minute later, Archer and Aslanian teamed up again to give the latter his 100th point. The teams traded goals to end the frame with Hobart in front 13-5. If there were any thoughts of a fourth quarter rally, the Statesmen squashed them with a four goal burst to start the quarter. Sophomore goalie Sam Lucchesi earned his first collegiate win in his first collegiate start. He made seven saves, including four in the fourth quarter. First-year Robert Martin took the loss, making 14 saves in 58 minutes of work. With the win, Hobart improves to 8-5 all-time against Binghamton. The Statesmen's 17 goals are the most scored by either team in the series. Hobart will be back in action on Boswell Field on Tuesday, March 6, when the Statesmen host Colgate University (3-2). The opening faceoff is scheduled for 4 p.m.
