The Railsplitters (1-1) scored twice in the final five minutes to seal a 10-8 win over the Alabama-Huntsville Chargers (0-2) in the home opener of the 2017 campaign on Saturday afternoon. In a match that was tied six different times, including an 8-8 stalemate well past the midway point of the fourth quarter, Kyle Arcuri (Patchogue, N.Y.) tallied the game-winner at the 5:05 mark, while Nick Borriello (Myrtle Beach, S.C.) added some insurance less than two minutes later to help Lincoln Memorial avoid its first-ever 0-2 start. Arcuri and Borriello each tallied two goals apiece and combined for 14 shots in the match, while Adam Golia (Victoria, British Columbia) had two goals and assisted on the game-winning score. Robert Tucker (Wantagh, N.Y.) matched Golia with two goals and an assist, Billy Kopsky (Smithtown, N.Y.) had a goal and an assist, and Ryan Benck (Hauppauge, N.Y.) notched his first career point with a goal. The Railsplitters also received a solid outing from senior goalie Joe Medel (Virginia Beach, Va.), who made seven saves and allowed just eight goals in 60 minutes of work one week after surrendering 16 goals in 55 minutes at Florida Tech. Jack Utrevis led Alabama-Huntsville with two goals and an assist, while Collin Wilcox and Bryant Baus had two goals apiece. Luke Levette scored one goal while assisting on five others. Mattie D'Amico also scored a goal in the match. The Chargers held a 3-2 lead at the end of the first quarter after Wilcox scored with 1:57 left, but the Railsplitters outscored the visitors 3-1 in the second to carry a narrow 5-4 lead into the break. Benck scored the first goal of the second after a turnover and failed clear attempt for UAH. Tucker put the Railsplitters ahead with his first goal of the season at the 2:50 mark. Arcuri scored just 18 seconds into the second half to extend the Railsplitters' lead to 6-4, and Lincoln Memorial maintained a two-goal edge until Baus netted a man-up goal with 2:05 left in the third to close the deficit to 7-6. The Chargers tied the game at 7-7 early in the fourth on a goal by LeVette, but Tucker put LMU back in front just over a minute later. With 6:54 left in regulation, Baus scored to draw it even at 8-8 before the Railsplitters ended it on a 2-0 run. Lincoln Memorial outshot the Chargers 37-30 and accounted for a 17-15 edge in shots on goal. Alabama-Huntsville won 12 of the 21 face-offs, but LMU finished with a 31-24 advantage in groundball recoveries. The Railsplitters also went 15-for-18 on clearance opportunities. The win moved the Railsplitters to 8-5 all-time in Harrogate and snapped a four-game losing streak dating back to the end of the 2016 campaign. Michl McNeil played all but 21 seconds in goal for the Chargers, giving up nine goals with seven saves over that span.
