Marywood University opened its men's lacrosse home schedule with an 18-9 loss to crosstown University of Scranton on a chilly Saturday afternoon. The Royals built a 11-3 halftime lead over the Pacers. Zach Vaughan led the Pacers with three goals and an assist. Eric Morin added a pair of goals. Patrick Dingwell doubled his career total with two goals. Freshman Ben Mustakos provided his first career points with a goal and an assist. Connor Reed came in for a relief to make 12 saves in net. Reed also added five ground balls and an caused turnovers from his platoon. Defensively, Zach Bradbury picked up five ground balls. Joseph Guida scooped four ground balls. Luke McFadden provided pressure with two ground balls and three caused turnovers. Scranton's Quinn Killeen scored five goals and added two assists, while Tim Dolan added three goals and two helpers for the Royals. The Royals jumped out to a 5-1 lead at the end of the first quarter of Saturday's contest at Marywood before netting the first the four goals of the second stanza to hold a 9-1 advantage just three minutes into the period. The two teams traded goals over the final 11 minutes to put Scranton's advantage at eight goals at the intermission. The Royals built a 12-goal cushion by netting five of the third quarter's six goals to hold a commanding, 16-4 lead heading into the final 15 minutes of the contest. With little doubt remaining about the result, the Pacers outscored the visitors 5-2 in the fourth period. Marywood will play the first-ever men's lacrosse game played at Scranton's Weiss Field Sunday when it faced Arcadia University at a neutral site game at noon.
