The third one-goal game of The University of Scranton men's lacrosse team's season proved to be the charm on Saturday as the Royals defeated Plattsburgh 11-10, to snap a four-game losing game that included a pair of one-goal setbacks. Scranton (3-4) used a 4-1 run over a three and a half minute span late in the fourth quarter of Saturday's non-conference game against the Cardinals (1-3) played at Half Hollow Hills East High School and held on for their third victory of the season. Junior Connor Kirkwood (Millburn, N.J./St Peter's Prep) and junior Michael Elefonte (Kinnelon, N.J./Kinnelon) had four points apiece to lead the Royals' attack as both players scored three goals while picking up an assist. Sophomore Shayne Fallon (West Deptford, N.J./West Deptford) made a career-high 15 saves in the win. As has been the case for much of Scranton's season, Saturday's game against Plattsburgh was a tight contest for the duration with neither team holding a lead greater than two goals. The Cardinals built a 3-1 advantage with 4:45 remaining in the first quarter before the Royals countered with four straight goals to claim a 5-3 lead at the 12:19 mark of the second period. Plattsburgh scored three times in the final six and a half minutes of the stanza to take a 6-5 edge into halftime. Both teams scored a goal apiece in the third quarter to give the Cardinals a 7-6 lead heading into the final period of regulation. Scranton netted three of the first four goals in the fourth quarter to lead 9-8 with 5:04 showing on the clock. Plattsburgh knotted the game up at nine-apiece at the 4:24 mark, but goals by Elefonte and Freshman Cole Lukasiewicz (Havertown, Pa./Haverford) put the Royals ahead 11-9 with two minutes to play. Scranton held the Cardinals at bay until the closing seconds of the contest as Plattsburgh netted the final goal four seconds before the final horn sounded. Lukasiewicz and senior Tim Dolan (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) scored two goals apiece for the Royals in the win while junior Alexander Dadourian (Summit, N.J./Summit) added a goal and an assist. Sophomore Jalen Holmes (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) dished out two assists in the victory for Scranton. Sophomore Collin Purdy (Hillsborough, N.J./Hillsborough) won a game-high 14 face-offs on 22 draws and tied with Dadourian for a game-high in groundballs with five. Scranton held a 52-41 advantage in shots for the game along with a 26-22 edge in groundballs. The Royals also claimed a 14-9 margin in face-off wins and were 14-of-16 on clearing attempts. Both teams scored two man-up goals apiece in the contest with the Royals going 2-for-6 on extra-man opportunities while the Cardinals converted two of their three man-up chances. Scranton will visit Misericordia on Wednesday evening in a non-conference game starting at 5 p.m. in Dallas, Pa.
