The University of Michigan men's lacrosse team defeated the Cleveland State Vikings, 15-5, on Saturday (Feb. 10) in the first contest at the brand new U-M Lacrosse Stadium. U-M was paced by five goals from junior Brent Noseworthy and a hat-trick from freshman Alex Buckanavage. The Wolverines (1-0) struck first when Noseworthy scored the game's first goal -- the inaugural goal at U-M Lacrosse Stadium -- in the first minute of the game. After the Vikings answered minutes later, Buckanavage added a goal with the assist coming from senior Parker McKee. Cleveland State (0-2) scored again before Noseworthy and junior Decker U-M continued the scoring trend to start the second quarter when Buckanavage found the back of the net for his second of three goals, with sophomore Avery Myers adding another with the assist from junior Rocco Sutherland. The Vikings scored one more goal, which was followed by markers from senior Chase Young and Sutherland to give the Wolverines an 8-3 lead at the intermission. Cleveland State scored on the opening faceoff of the second half, but remained scoreless until the fourth minute of the fourth period, when they scored their fifth and final goal of the game. Michigan added five more goals in the third period, including three straight from Noseworthy, a man-up score from Myers and a filthy over-the-shoulder goal from Buckanavage. Senior Sean McCanna and sophomore Noah Fosse scored in the final two minutes of the game to make the final score 15-5, in favor of the Wolverines. Sophomore Matt Trowbridge was stellar, making eight saves and allowing four goals during his 45 minutes in the net. Junior Gunner Garn took over in goal for the final period; he made seven saves and allowed only one goal on 14 CSU shots. Freshmen Ben Cirella, Hunter Batesko, Kevin Mack, Alex Calkins, Jackson Zaugg, Tillman Gallagher, JD Carroll, Buckanavage and Mack all made their NCAA debuts.
