WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Senior Michael Tenant (Baltimore, Md./Calvert Hall) set a program record with 28 saves and became the fourth goalkeeper in Lycoming College men's lacrosse team's history to reach 500 career saves, but his virtuosic performance was not enough against 15th-ranked Ithaca College, which posted a 17-3 win at the Shangraw Athletic Complex on Wednesday afternoon, Feb. 27. Tenant was brilliant in net for the Warriors (0-3 overall), especially in the first half when he allowed just five goals while stopping 19 of Ithaca's 36 shots. His performance in the first half kept Lycoming in the game, as Ithaca (1-0 overall) was consistently frustrated by his efforts to stop shots, which paid off late in the half when the Warriors scrambled to get two goals in the half's final 30 seconds. First, sophomore Jason Chappell (Ellicott City, Md./Boys' Latin) found sophomore Dominic Massaro (Centereach, N.Y./Sachem North) for a score and then freshman Max Hanson (Prattville, Ala./Bishop Machebeuf) won a groundball out of a scrum on a faceoff and went upper 90 to close the gap to 5-2 at the break. Connor Brumfield, who led the Bombers with 40 goals in 2018, started the second half with three of his six goals, though, and Ithaca used seven third-quarter goals to take control of the game. Freshman Blake Premo (Massena, N.Y./Massena) scored Lycoming's lone goal of the second half, scoring his first career goal on Hanson's first assist with 3:54 left. Tenant's 28 saves broke the school record of 26 set by Jared Jankowski against Widener in 1999 and Kyle Gilfoy against Widener in 2009. Chappell and senior Travis Rode (Kinnelon, N.J./Kinnelon) each had five groundballs to lead the Warriors and seniors Eric Schutta (Frenchtown, N.J./Delaware Valley Regional), Cole Masterson (Honeoye Falls, N.Y./Honeoye Falls-Lima) and Hanson each had four. Freshman Ian Chapman (Hampstead, Md./Manchester Valley) caused two turnovers. Brumfield led the Bombers with six goals and three assists and Josh Della Puca had three assists and five groundballs. Jake Hall-Goldman led the team with four caused turnovers and Connor Thornton finished with six saves. The Warriors get back on the field on Saturday, March 3, when they head to King's College for a 1 p.m. non-conference game.
