EASTON, Pa. – The Lafayette men’s lacrosse team went out of conference on Saturday afternoon at Fisher Stadium, falling by a 15-6 score to Binghamton. Sophomore Seth Obadia and junior Jonathan Anastos were the bright spots in a game for the Maroon and White that saw a first-half deficit grow to an eventually insurmountable deficit. Obadia recorded his first career hat trick with three goals on the afternoon, while Anastos made 10 saves in his 45 minutes of action. The defeat drops the Maroon and White to 2-9 on the year overall, while Binghamton improves to 3-8. The game started as a defensive struggle with the visiting Bearcats scoring the only two goals in the opening quarter. The run continued through the second, though, as Binghamton added six more until the first Lafayette goal with 11 seconds left in the half to push the game to intermission at 8-1. The Leopards came out renewed at the start of the second half as sophomore Zane Crandall and freshman John Natoli went back-to-back to pull the home side within five at 8-3 with 8:08 to play in the third. The visitors answered, though, with a five-goal spurt to put the game out of reach, ahead 13-3 at the start of the fourth. Obadia scored all three of his goals in the final 12 minutes of the contest as the Leopards finished strong despite the deficit with three of the game’s final five goals. In the end, the clock sounded on a 15-6 final. The Bearcats controlled the majority of the offense with a 47-32 edge in shots and forced Lafayette into 21 turnovers compared to committing just 10 of their own. Sophomore John Becker and freshman Gabe Smithline weren’t the issue at all at the X, winning 17 of the game’s 25 faceoffs. Lafayette faces one more non-conference opponent in Monmouth before closing the season with its final three Patriot League foes. Opening faceoff on Tuesday in West Long Branch, N.J. is set for 3 p.m.
