For the second consecutive season, the Ohio State men's lacrosse team took down the nation's top-ranked team. And in the process, the Buckeyes' senior class became the winningest in program history, notching their 42nd victory in Sunday's 12-10 triumph over No. 1 Maryland at Capitol One Field at Maryland Stadium. THE SHORT STORY Junior Jack Jasinski had a career-high seven points (two goals, five assists) while Maryland native Colin Chell scored four times and added an assist to pace the offensive effort. In the face-off X, Justin Inacio won 17 of 26 draws - including 10 in a row during a span in the second and third quarters - and redshirt freshman goalie Josh Kirson stopped nine shots - seven in the second half and four in the fourth quarter - to thwart any hopes of a Maryland comeback. NOTES AND NUGGETS • Head coach Nick Myers tied Joe Breschi for the most wins in program history with 92. • For the first time in program history, Ohio State has defeated the nation's top-ranked team in back to back seasons. It's also the first time they've beaten a No. 1-ranked team on the road. • Jasinski's seven points and five assists are both a career high. • Ohio State's senior class - the first to go through four years of Big Ten lacrosse - broke the wins record set by last year's group of seniors. • In the last three weeks, Inacio has won 46-of-67 face-offs (68 percent). QUOTABLE Head coach Nick Myers: "The significance of these seniors setting the record for most wins by any senior class is very special to us. This something we're going to enjoy - I'm proud of the way they handled this week. It was a long one and they did a great job navigating it. Hopefully we can build on it going into Rutgers at home next Saturday." Colin Chell: "Last year was last year and today we had a new mindset. We came here with one goal and that was to get a W and now we have to go home, regroup and get ready for next week." Jack Jasinski: "We focused on getting back to basics. We came in this week looking to build off our performance last week and it helped to start fast. We've been working on that in practice. It's a lot easier to play in front then come from behind." HOW THE GOALS WERE SCORED • Ohio State built a 3-0 lead in the first quarter before Maryland possessed the ball, winning the first three face-offs and scoring goals on three of its first four shots. Jasinski scored once and Chell twice in the opening four minutes. • Three straight goals by Maryland tied the game at 3-3, but Chell swung the momentum back in Ohio State's favor when he completed the first quarter hat trick with 13 seconds left in the opening period. • Maryland took its first lead of the day at 5-4 midway through the second quarter, but Leclaire answered less than a minute later and the teams traded goals before going into the locker room at halftime tied at 6-6. • Just like in the first half, Ohio State scored three goals quickly in the third quarter thanks to dominant face-off play, getting tallies from Colby Smith, Jackson Reid and Chell to make the score 9-6 with 11:32 to play in the quarter. • Maryland went on a three-goal run to tie the game at 9-9 early in the fourth quarter, but Jackson Reid and Colin Chell connected on a transition goal with 12:59 left in the fourth for what proved to be the game-winning goal. Hank Bethke added another one at the six minute mark and Ohio State's defense clamped down from there, getting several key saves from Kirson.
