Visiting Stockton University built a three-goal halftime lead en route to a 16-11 non-conference men's lacrosse win over host Washington College this afternoon on Kibler Field at Roy Kirby, Jr. Stadium.
Stockton 16, Washington College 11
How It Happened
- The Ospreys scored the first two goals of the game before the Shoremen evened things up with a pair of goals of their own as Cody Pascale scooped up a ground ball and found the back of the net with 5:06 to play in the first quarter to even the score at 2-2. Stockton scored the next two goals to take a 4-2 lead after the first period after J.J. McKenna scored off an Erik Anderson assist with 2:36 to go.
- Neither team scored in the second quarter before Kevin Trapp found the back of the net off a Trey Ritter feed with 7:33 left to trim the Stockton lead to 4-3. The Ospreys countered with an Eric Ellis goal off an Eric D'Arminio feed 57 seconds later. Casey Grieves scored off a Zack Gorrasi assist for the Shoremen with 3:22 left to make it 5-4, but the Ospreys scored the final two goals of the half as Luc Swedlund scored off a Joey Tiernan assist with 49 seconds to go for a 7-4 lead at the intermission.
- The Shoremen scored the first two goals of the third quarter to trim the margin back down to a single goal following a Gorrasi extra-man goal off a Grieves assist with 10:31 showing, but that was as close as they would get. The Ospreys scored the next two goals and five of the final seven in the period to take a 12-8 lead on an Anderson tally with 2:21 to go in the quarter.
- Joey Tiernan opened the fourth-quarter scoring 1:23 into the period for a 13-8 Osprey lead. The Shoremen then scored three of the next four goals to get back within three thanks to a Gorrasi extra-man goal off a Trapp assist with 4:56 to play, but that's where the rally ended as Stockton tacked on two late goals to provide the final margin. A Grieves assist on a Sean Reilly goal with 10:23 to play provided Grieves with his 100th career point at Washington College.
