Providence, R.I. – The Providence men’s lacrosse team lost to Hofstra, 12-8, on Saturday afternoon on Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium. 1st Quarter: In a back and-forth first quarter, it was the Friars who took the early 3-2 lead. Austin Goltz (Orchard Park. N.Y.) scored his first goal of the day to break the ice, before Nick Hatzipetrakos (Syosset, N.Y) netted back-to-back goals to give Providence a 3-2 lead with 6:49 left in the first. Hofstra responded to close the frame with Dylan McIntosh and Jimmy Yanes scoring just 45 seconds apart to give the Pride a 4-3 lead after one. 2nd Quarter: The Friars retook the lead early in the second quarter with three straight goals. Ryan Nawrocki (Smithtown, N.Y.), Tim Hinrichs (Amherst, N.H.) and Evan McGreen (Narragansett, R.I.) scored in consecutive fashion for Providence before Ryan Tierney scored his 14th goal of the season for Hofstra to trim Providence’s lead to 6-5 at the half. 3rd Quarter: The third quarter belonged to Hofstra. Nawrocki netted his second goal of the day on the man-up, but Hofstra came right back with three straight goals. Two of the goals were scored by McIntosh around one from Yanes to push the Pride in front 9-7 after three. 4th Quarter: Hofstra pulled away early in the final frame with McIntosh completing the hat trick before scoring his fourth goal of the day to increase their lead up to four goals. Nick Preston tried to keep the Friars afloat with his first goal of the season, but Dominic Pryor finished a feed from Alex Moeser to put Hofstra up 12-8 and seal the outcome. Game Notes: The two goals for Hatzipetrakos give him 16 goals for the season, which leads the Friars. Yanes and McIntosh combined for seven goals and three assists for Hofstra. What’s Next: The Friars travel to Philadelphia to take on Drexel on Sunday, March 25th with face-off scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
