TOWSON, Md. – Jon Mazza and Brendan Sunday each recorded hat tricks to lead Towson to a 15-13 victory over Mount St. Mary's in a non-conference men's lacrosse contest at Johnny Unitas Stadium Saturday afternoon. Grant Maloof added two goals as Towson captured its home opener to even its record at 1-1. Mount St. Mary's dropped to 0-2 despite getting four goals from Luke Frankeny and three tallies from Matt Haggerty. This was Towson's 12th consecutive victory over Mount St. Mary's. Towson gained control of the contest by scoring seven consecutive goals in the second period after Mount St. Mary's tied the game, 5-5. Sunday gave the Tigers the lead for good, 6-5, with 10:30 remaining in the second period. Following his goal, Phil Wies, Timmy Monahan, Jon Mazza, Brody McLean, Dylan Kinnear and Grant Maloof scored as the Tigers opened a 12-5 halftime lead. Towson recovered from a slow start in which it trailed 2-0 to take a 5-4 lead after the first period. Alex Woodall won 21 face-offs for the Tigers. Mount St. Mary's scored the final three goals of the contest. Towson returns to action at home against Georgetown on Saturday, Feb. 24. The game begins at 12:00 p.m.
