The University of Richmond men's lacrosse team (2-1) used six first-quarter goals and a late-game rally to take down visiting Mount St. Mary's (0-3) on Tuesday afternoon at Robins Stadium. Teddy Hatfield led the way for the Spiders, scoring five goals and assisting on one other to total six points. He has now scored nine goals in two games at Robins Stadium this season after scoring four times in the Spiders' win over Bucknell. Rookie Mitch Savoca posted his first multi-goal game, scoring the first two goals of his career including the game-winner with 11:52 to play. The Spiders got on the board early and often in the opening quarter despite an early 1-0 Mount St. Mary's lead. Hatfield led the way with a hat trick, scoring three if the Spiders' six goals to give Richmond a 6-3 advantage after the first 15 minutes. Hatfield scored his fourth goal to open the second quarter, but a rally by The Mount sent the Spiders into the locker room with a 7-6 lead at the half. Mount St. Mary's continued its run into the third quarter, scoring twice to take an 8-7 lead, but the Spiders rebounded with two goals from Tyler Shoults and Mitch Goldberg to take the lead back. When The Mount tied the game again in the first minute of the final quarter, Richmond answered with three-straight scores to take a 12-9 advantage with 10 minutes to play. The Mount attempted another comeback when Brenden McCarthy scored his third goal of the day, but Hatfield's season-high fifth goal of the game sealed the 13-10 win. The Spiders will now hit the road for a meeting with No. 9 Notre Dame on Saturday, February 4. Game time in South Bend is set for 1 p.m.
