The Mount St. Mary's University men's lacrosse team dropped a 14-7 decision at Saint Joseph's in a Northeast Conference matchup on Saturday afternoon. Chris DiPretoro and Matt Haggerty netted two goals each and Henry Berg contributed three assists to lead Mount St. Mary's on the day. Matt Vierheller earned the start in goal, stopping 13 shots and registerng a .481 save percentage. Chris Blewitt (2g, 3a), Hayes McGinley (3g, 1a) and Mike Rastivo (3g) did most the damage for SJU as the trio combined for 12 points in the Hawks' win. SJU improved to 9-3 overall and remained perfect in NEC play with a 5-0 mark following the victory, while the Mount dropped to 4-9 on the year and 1-4 in conference. DiPretoro registered the Mount's lone goal of the first quarter as Saint Joseph's opened a 5-1 advantage at the end of one. Blewitt helped stake the Hawks out to the first-quarter lead with four points (2g, 2a) in the stanza. SJU scored three straight to begin the second quarter, with McGinley accounting for a pair of the goals, as the Hawks extended their advantage to 8-1 at the 9:47 mark of the frame. Joe Bethke put an end to the SJU rally with his ninth goal of the season just under two minutes later to cut the Mount deficit to 8-2, and Rastivo and Brenden McCarthy traded goals in the final four minutes of the half, as SJU took a 9-3 advantage into the locker rooms. After a pair of goals apiece from both teams in the third period, the Hawks carried a six-goal lead, 11-5, into the final quarter of play. An early tally in the fourth from SJU's Brendan McNicholas made it a 12-5 game, and following a five-minute scoreless stretch, Patrick O'Brien netted another for the Hawks to push the lead to 13-5 midway through the frame. Mount St. Mary's got goals from Haggerty and Sam Stephan late in the contest, but weren't able to whittle the deficit under seven, as SJU closed out the 14-7 win. The Mount returns home to Emmitsburg to host Wagner as part of Senior Day on Saturday, April 28 at 1 p.m.
